Seth Rogen usually makes me laugh but he wasn't that funny this time, would you consider Napoleon Dynamite as a similar type of comedy?
Napoleon Dynamite is a really quite interesting piece, as i have said before Indie films when they hit the mainstream will have an effect on mainstream film making. Whether or not you like the film it would be difficult to disregard that it is important to film history. It revolutionised the teen genre, it bought us Geek power, it make a completel architypal geek the protaginist/hero alongside a comedy in set that we rarely see. I know films have had this before ie. Weird Science, but Napoleon Dynamite was going out for something new. There was no conventional comedy, how many other films can you identify that uses milk tasting at a milk fair a comedy set piece? Or the dance, where we see a 6ft 6" white dude with an afro performing dance moves he learnt from the black disco culture (which could be seen a pastiche to John Travolta in Saturday Night fever) dancing to Jamiroquai. I dont know if that makes a lot of sense, simply Napoleon Dynamite marks a turning point in Teen Film.

It is. Though you have a point in the original/remake statement, here it doesn't stand. Why? Because the remake wanted to be too much and in the end it sort of got lost. The original is like 45 minutes shorter and tells a better story with more tension and better character development. Not to mention there is a lot more emotion to the characters. Departed was too stretched and it took away from the movie itself.
I think that's all true, but I don't agree that the only way to judge a movie is by the values of its predecessor.

I'm generally one who is excited over remakes, when its a proper quality production in the hands of competent people (and not jus typical recycled fluff, which its most of the time), and been several cases where I prefered the remake. But Departed was really, even if judged on its own alone, going for a big exciting angle of deep undercover in both police and gangster sphere WITHOUT actually bothering to build up the setting for it. It was good entertainment, but it was bit messy, didnt really go anywhere in what it was trying to tell.

Internal affairs was pretty on point on what it was trying to acheive and did it scene by scene. Quite tense in parts (police outside listening in, room full of gangsters and one mole, you can sense whats at stake with every shot), Departed missed that big time, it tried with the cinema meeting and cat and mouse chase afterwards, and how the Gang boss was eyeing the main character at times, but it really misfired in creating tension or build up the paranoia for those vital bits for sure. Matt Damons character in general showed the flaws of the movie in what it could have been, really poor use of that character.

I'm not really in a habit of writing reviews on films, lightly discuss or simply say if one enjoys it or not etc. But yeah, not been hyped about it, but been a movie I have been interested to see for a year or so. For some reason they not been showing in the cinema here.

Would be interesting to know your perspective on Donnie Darko. One of my personal (recent) favourites.

Why I'm not surprised :D

What didn't you like about it? I guess it didn't bash the US government enough, huh? :D
Well aside from the typical picturing of the barbarian Arabs, and the brave, gallant and selfless Americans:p, i didn't think there was any real story. It was clip after clip of that guy detonating bombs. To be honest i felt it was repetitive and boring

Fred is even more hopeless then Martin then when it comes to movies, so I wouldnt put much stock to it :p
You only say that because i think the Bourne series is lame :D
