The Best Offer

Geoffrey Rush as a corrupt antiques dealer. Something different at least. The ending plot twist was easy to read but for the details, almost too obvious in fact.

I was also not sure at all about the Italian setting but virtually all English cast and characters.

Yeah thats text book lazy writing, they were captivating in a way that made sense for most of it, until they figured "hey lets add every major historical event/figure as related to him". Even if it made no sense for a man of that time to cover so much ground litterally.
Just watched it, liked it too. It did a lot like a play though, much more so than a movie. In that sense, I never had the feeling that the people on screen were real persons, or anything more than characters. Actually, I was even convinced that the movie was an adaption of a play

In the same way, I don't think that any logical obstructions over him being a little bit too involved into world history hold that much value. It's much more of a thought-experiment than a real story, if you get what I mean.

What did feel very random was the very last scene with his son dying though. Simply cutting that would've made the movie much better imo. It was very out of place, and didn't serve any real purpose, at least none that I can detect.

Its been years since I saw the movie but yeah remember the eeeeehhh effect that last scene had on me.

A movie that I found more intriguing is called Coherence. I maybe say that because I litterally just finished watching it 2 minutes ago :) Someone recommended it in IMDB board for a small movie thats similar to to man from earth in terms of mainly being about a group up people alone in a room and mysterious events occuring. I wont say more then that, but I liked it more then the Man from earth :)

If I interpret your post correctly, I think we agree. :D

I liked how old-fashioned it was (typical Tornatore), and how it almost reminded me of a Hitchcock movie. But it was indeed a little too ordinary and safe, and the twist was, as you say, very predictable. Still, I enjoyed it. And it has, like all Tornatore movies, a nice Morricone score. :D

It is :D It was completely charming fun really, best part is it didnt take itself seriously at all. Only awful part was Samuel L Jackson.

And I'm downloading Best Offer because of you two fuckers up there, havent seen Rush in anything for a long time.

Caché is a masterpiece, so you should watch that. It's a demanding film to watch though.
I find Juliette Binoche to be wonderful actress, so thats why I downloaded it. But checked running time, and even if its demanding, not in the mood for that length this late. Coherence that I recently finished was just 1.25 minutes and was quite refreshing and intriguing experience, but yeah no masterpiece.

Huh? It's it about the same as The Best Offer regarding length? 2 hours isn't that much. :D

I think someone in here has disagreed about this before, but Das Weiße Band (pretty standard I guess).

Only movies of his I've seen are that, Die Klavierspielerin, and, recently, Caché though. Caché does come as a close second, need to rewatch it probably. The first time I saw it about a month ago I was tired as hell, my impression of the movie has probably suffered a bit under that.

It does make sense for you to pick one of his films in German. :p Anything else could be considered treason.
