Weird reaction after watching a game where we conceded twice in 15 minutes after this player got subbed and also played like shit in his absence throughout the season

This kind of intelligence, lol. Its not like they didnt have the chances to score while he was playing.

If he had the flu, I dont wanna be harsh on him today. But I agree that he is very overrated in here and that this 'regista' obsession is ridiculous as hell. 'Who can then play regista?' 'his teammates sucks', 'we need to play 3 man in midfield', 'we should play him higher up the pitch' etc. A lot of excuses for a generally underperforming player, atleast considering our expectations for him.

pjanic had fever earlier today, he clearly ran out of steam around the hour mark. it's a shame. still, we played below par even with him on the pitch.
thats a valid excuse then. would have been better to save him for the 2nd half in that case i think. thats when Atletico go a gear up usually

Sick or not sick, this guy never performs in big ones.
Disagree. He was very good in Cardiff until he got injured (especially considering his midfield partner was Khedira). He was very good against Barcelona at home (3-0) and against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu (1-3).

Out of the 5 midfielders we have, he is comfortably the best.

    Penalties?

He's got some technical ability no doubt, but he's bot going to take us far.
I feel like Pjanic is a kind of player who plays better with better teammates. He’s not someone who can carry a midfield on his own.

If you put Pjanic alongside prime Vidal and prime Davids in midfield, and give him the creative freedom, he would be absolutely phenomenal.

But instead he is playing alongside donkeys who cannot even control a football.

Has Pjanic ever played with such players? Has he ever been this phenomenal before?

It seems a lot of guessing, about a guy who is supposed to be our pillar in midfield. The guy we build around.

He's obviously by far our best midfielder but I'm underwhelmed by this guy. We literally can't play without him but he's a 7/10 in a sea of 3/10s. For a pass specialist he sure likes to pick the easy backpass and everyone knows the fucking vegetables he's playing with won't be the ones to break the lines

Maybe he'd look like he did at Roma playing a bit further up with 2 competent midfielders next to him but I'd say he's comfortably 5th best compared to the old MVPP midfield we had. He's not untouchable and I'd rather get two midfielders suited to a 4-2-3-1 than persist with a 3 man midfield because it's the only thing he can cope with.

Fully agree. He is not good enough to be worth the trouble and sacrifice in other areas by trying to suit him with 2 additional midfield partners. I don't think playing him closer to attack is an option as well. He can't really dribble to get past a man and is not fast or strong holding on to the ball. He would easily get bullied.

our team look like this - there is a defence then there is Pjanic and the rest of the team just hides behind the opponents so they dont have to deal with the pass.
Occasionally one of Dybala or Ronaldo moves closer to get the ball as they are too frustrated.

Pjanic was phenomenal in his final season at Roma when playing alongside De Rossi and Nainggolan.
Phenomenal for a few games. But definitely not in general.

Regardless, it's not as if Pjanic is the biggest problem we have anyway, but perhaps it's time to face the facts: if he was a truly great player, he'd play a lot of great games. Instead, just by going through a few pages of this thread, you'll find dozens of excuses/reasons as to why he's having average games.
