That is so not true. Messi is really strong physically, he can deceive you with his build. but he holds his ground against a lot of strong defenders. He is really hard to push of the ball. No way is he like Robinho.
True, his balance is immense and it comes to show through his dribbling. Infact id be brave to say comparing the statures of both players than ronaldo is the bigger diver. shameful.

ok before i state my case i have to say this is an unwinnable argument, both fantastic players, undoubtadly world class but with such different characteristics, one a tricky, pacy genius who's interplay and vision can completely destroy opponents. the other a genius of a different kind, also tricky and pacy but with a venomous shot and a real eye for goal.

sounds familiar doesn't it? it is the modern equivalent of the long debated Pele v Maradonna debate,it all comes down to perception.
personally i think both are wonderfully talented but Messi edges it simply because he can raise the game of others around him also

It's hard to compare but maybe Alen can show of some stats for a previous year and this one.
I'll show you the stats, but they won't prove anything else but the fact that we're talking about two extremely special players.
The bare facts that at 23 and 22 these two guys won the CL as their team's best players, were CL's topscorers, scored in the final and won the ballon d'or tell a lot.

There are great players, some are the greatest, but to me, from the players i've seen, only three are the greatest of the greatest: Maradona, Ronaldo and Zidane. Baggio and Ronaldinho are among the greatest but imo not on the same level as the above three. Messi and Cristiano will surely join on that 3 men list and make it a 5 men list.
But I'd like to mention one special quality that Messi posses and i've never seen it done by anyone else. Imagine having an imaginary ball adhered to your foot. You run with it but the others can't see the ball and the ball isn't running away from you because it's glued. That's the impression I get when I watch Messi running with the ball, just that the ball isn't imaginary and it isn't adhered to his foot.

Anyway, as for the stats:

2009/2010
Messi: 23 goals and 9 assists on 30 matches. In total 32 goals+assists on 30 matches (La Liga+CL+other cups)
Ronaldo: 17 goals and 1 assist on 17 matches. In total 18 goals+assists on 17 matches .

2008/2009
Messi: 38 goals+18 assists on 51 matches. In total 56 goal+assists on 51 match
Ronaldo: 26 goals+9 assists on 53 matches. In total 35 goals+assists on 53 matches

2007/08
Messi: 16 goals+13 assists on 40 matches. In total 29 goals+assists on 40 matches
Ronaldo: 42 goals +9 assists on 49 matches. In total 51 goal+assists on 49 matches.

For the last 3 seasons:
Messi : 117 goals+assists on 121 matches (77 goals+40 assists)
Ronaldo: 104 goals+assists on 119 matches (85 goals+19 assists)

What a question, I'd like to see Messi handle the Premiership and be effective as Ronaldo there. I'd like to see Messi score 40+ goals a season in the Premiership. I'd give the edge to Ronaldo personally, I think I need to see Messi outside of Spain or outside of Barcelona for that reason.

Seriously, only someone from England could come up with something like this.

Messi at just 18 "raped" chelsea's defence when chelsea themselves were raping every single club in the premier league that year under mourinho. But he's not good enough for the mighty premier league defence

Anyways to me, talent wise: Messi > cristiano

Entertainment : Crsitiano > Messi.

hmm very very tough. I voted Ronaldo tho, and went by this logic: there's nothing that Messi can do that Ronaldo can't, but there are things that Ronaldo has over, like long range shots, freekicks, fitness, aerial game, diving, etc.

Ronaldo is better for sure. He does everything alone. Unlike Messi, he is in a very technically gifted team that links with him easily.

Imagine Ronaldo at Barca instead of Messi. That may top porn. I hate Ronaldo, though.

His freekicks aren't that special. He scores what, 1 in 35 attempts? All they do is look good when they score. And some players are better at dead balls than others. I'm not saying hi technique is poor.

Man, Ronaldo even dribbles more than Messi. Ronaldo is pure tech.
As MG said, Messi is more agile. Small areas better fit him and he can find the way out of nothing.

Ronaldo might have better technique, but Messi got better vision and creativity.

Messi's dribbles are simple and effective, yet majestic. Ronaldo's are effective too, but lower success rate :p and more complicated and showman-like. He's like a rich man's Robinho.
