Juventus in boxseat for Gremio fullback Mattioni

Gremio chief André Krieger admits an Italian agent holds the transfer rights of fullback Felipe Mattioni, but is adamant he won't leave until their Copa Libertadores campaign is over.

Krieger explained: "The transfer rights of Felipe Mattioni were sold (to agent Mino Raiola), I confess that I do not know the details but they were sold.

"The player, however, remains with Gremio, at least until the next Copa Libertadores."

The problem for Gremio is that any decision over Mattioni now rests with Raiola, who has held talks with Juventus about a January move for the defender.

Juventus are reportedly ready to join the race for English striker Michael Owen, who is expected to leave Newcastle United at the end of the season.
The forward has been in good form lately and attracted the interest of several European top teams. Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Internazionale had already been mentioned, and are now joined by the "Old Lady".
Owen joined Newcastle from Real Madrid in 2005 but has been struggling with several injuries since. Only recently, the player managed to get his career back on track. This season, he scored nine goals in 19 appearances.
The Magpies did offer Owen a new contract, as his current deal expires in the summer, but Owen rejected the proposal.
Owen gained fame with Liverpool from 1996 to 2004, and was at the time considered to be one of England's greatest talents. A year at Real Madrid didn't do the player any good though and he soon returned to England to join Newcastle United. In total, he scored 25 goals in 59 games with the Toon

According to the Mirror, the offer was made over night, and has prompted Harry Redknapp to increase his original offer of £5m to £16m.
Despite the latest interest from Italy, Defoe has made no secret of the fact that he always wanted to play under Harry Redknapp, and this was the main stimulus for him signing with Portsmouth in the first place.
"If Portsmouth can agree an acceptable deal with Tottenham I would like the opportunity to talk to them," he said.
"I've enjoyed my time immensely here, but I can't deny that Harry Redknapp's departure as manager hit me hard, particularly because he was the primary reason why I joined Portsmouth in the first place and said so at the time."
The 26-year-old was quick to deny that his desire to leave had anything to do with the appointment of Tony Adams, insisting that his only priority was to return to having Redknapp as his manager.
"It has absolutely nothing to do with it," he said. "I have a great deal of respect for Tony Adams and what he's trying to achieve. We have a very good working relationship.
"But I left Tottenham to join Portsmouth with the intention of working with Harry for a considerable time to come. So it was obviously a big blow when he left and particularly when he went back to my former club.
"I could have gone to other clubs when I left Tottenham but I wanted to work with Harry.
"I enjoy being around him because he brings the best out of me and that is all you can ask for from a manager."
However, while Defoe has become a transfer target, not only for Tottenham and Juventus but also Manchester City, Portsmouth have insisted that they will accept nothing less than their own valuation.
Club chairman Peter Storrie said: "While we accept that Jermain wants to leave, we are under no financial pressure to sell him. And unless someone comes up with a price that we feel reflects his status in the game he is going absolutely nowhere.
"He is an exceptional player and we don't particularly want to lose him.
"But I'll make it quite clear that no one is going to make us sell him."

The Defoe rumour can be forgotten, he goes back to Spurs:

Spurs confirm Defoe swoop

Jermain Defoe is on his way back to Tottenham Hotspur after Portsmouth accepted a bid believed to be in the region of £15million for the England striker.

Defoe, 26, left Spurs 12 months ago when he was lured to the south coast club by manager Harry Redknapp with the promise of greater first-team opportunities.

The former West Ham United striker had lost his England place during a frustrating spell down the pecking order at White Hart Lane under former boss Juande Ramos.

But following Redknapp's move in the opposite direction in October, Defoe has continually been linked with a return to the north London club.

On Monday, Redknapp revealed his new club had made a 'good offer' for the striker who has scored 17 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions during his brief spell on the south coast.

The two clubs were reported to be as little as £1.5million apart in their valuation of the player, who Pompey paid just £7.5million to land last January.

However, they have now reached an agreement and Defoe is set to travel back to White Hart Lane for a medical later on Tuesday.

"We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Portsmouth for the transfer of Jermain Defoe," confirmed a statement from Spurs.

"Personal terms have been agreed and the striker will today undergo a medical."

Defoe had been expected to leave Fratton Park after admitting over the weekend that he wanted to rejoin both Redknapp and Spurs.

"If Portsmouth can agree an acceptable deal with Tottenham I would like the opportunity to talk to them," he revealed.

"I've enjoyed my time immensely here, but I can't deny that Harry Redknapp's departure as manager hit me hard, particularly because he was the reason why I joined Portsmouth in the first place.

"I have a great deal of respect for Tony Adams and what he's trying to achieve. We have a very good working relationship.

good news :drill:

Mattioni "has Juve medical"

Brazilian talent Felipe Mattioni is “undergoing a medical with Juventus,” according to his agent, suggesting a transfer is imminent.

The defender has been linked with the Bianconeri for some time and there were reports today that Milan had intercepted the negotiations with Gremio.

However, his agent Mino Raiola informed Esporte Interativo that it never progressed.

“I can say that the player is undergoing a medical and that Juventus were the only club to make an official bid for him, but there is nothing certain about it right now.”

The 20-year-old wing-back was spotted in Turin today for a meeting with Juve sporting director Alessio Secco (pictured).

Gremio are eager to keep hold of Mattioni, but could fold when faced with a 7m Euro offer.
