Sarri's Italian record in Europe
By Football Italia staff
Maurizio Sarri holds a record for an Italian coach in Europe by going on a run of 19 matches without defeat across the Champions League and Europa League.
Last season, the former Napoli boss led Chelsea to Europa League glory after they beat Arsenal 4-1 in the Final, and he has continued to put his stamp on the Bianconeri in the Champions League this term.
Since the tournament was reformed in 1992 and became the Champions League we know today, no Italian coach has bettered Sarri’s run of games without a loss.
Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson tops the list by going 25 fixtures unbeaten in the competition, between 2007 and 2009.
Sarri is only one away from matching Louis van Gaal’s unbeaten streak of 20 with Ajax between 1993 and 1995 and four away from Sven-Göran Eriksson, who did not lose in 23 games with Goteborg and Benfica.
Tonight, the 60-year-old can take another step towards Sir Alex’s record when Juve face Lokomotiv Moscow.
