Did I say it started with Sarri?
My point is that we've blown a 2 goal and a 3 goal lead now in less than a month. I don't remember that happening under Allegri. If you do, please enlighten me.
I meant taking a lead and then conceding stupid, avoidable goals. Like in both games against Ajax last season. If we could just slow the game down a bit instead of getting caught in endless chase. To me its obvious we need better midfield to control games.

Come on we looked vulnerable on all the corners we were going to concede at some point of time

Yeah set pieces have been our issue since forever but over the last few seasons we have lost the ability to close the games down, CL games mostly. But we do create more and move the ball around better, especially from the back when pressed.

Thought it was a good game. Set piece defending aside I am more worried about our open defending (compared to allegri’s) but in return you get this quick pass/releases attacking football. Midfield shares a responsibility in this but I also think the defenders haven’t learned to communicate with each other properly yet

But at the same time, Sarri needs to make better subs and give us some defensive solidity when we have multiple goal leads. That’s a two goal lead and a 3 goal lead lost in just 4 matches. That happened 3-4 times in 5 years total under Allegri.

I dont think he can learn. He wasnt making good subs at Napoli, he isnt making them here so far. You cant teach old horse new tricks. He is too set in his ways. I cant recall from Sarri any sub like when Allegri introduced Licht against Totenham and won the game. Important game.

I guess what Im hoping positives outweight the negatives. So far our general gameplay looks better, less predictable. But results matter in the end and too early to make definitive conclusions.

Good thing is they’re aware of the problem. Sarri said as much in the post game. He said the cliche is to return to man marking but says that doesn’t make sense. So they’ll be emphasizing it more going toward - says it’s an issue of aggressiveness... said that even if man marking they wouldn’t be aggressive. So we will to see if they address the problem sufficiently. De Ligt in particular is good in the air so hopefully we do see a rapid improvement. Also we do do know that Atletico is very strong at set pieces, so if we can improve in this respect in the at home va Atletico, it’s a good sign

As some people would say Sarri is anti Allegri but no complaints so far apart from set pieces defending

Yeah, I don't care if its cliche or not and if its zonal, man marking or mixed, just make it work.

Open play defence is absolutely top of the world though, Allegri or Sarri, our defenders are rock solid and almost perfect. Set pieces need improving, rest is good with potential to become great.
