It's tricky to compare points like that because of covid last season. There is a clear before and after lockdown situation.

In the end Sarri actually won the scudetto, Pirlo depends on Cagliari, Verona, and Atalanta achieve 4th place.

Pirlo has a better team too. Give Sarri Arthur, Chiesa, Kulusevski and Morata and he would compete with Inter.

Costa last season was better than all our wingers except Chiesa, we had Dybala healthy and in form. The only place we improved was CF, but again, Sarri used Dybala there. The rest are downgrades, atleast in the short run

Costa didn't even play 10 full games last season and scored only 1 goal. A total non factor last season. Bernardeschi was more our starter, and it doesn't need to be said how much better Chiesa is than Bernardeschi.

We secured the scudetto after round 36 last season, if you want to compare points directly that's the best point to do the comparison as the remaining 2 rounds in 2019/20 were garbage points we didnt pick up. 2019/20 we had 83 points after round 36, 2020/21 we had 72, imo -11 is the real difference in performance.

You might say Inter is doing better than last season and that's obviously true (although we'll never now if Pazza Inter would show up if someone put them under any kind of pressure) but at no point during the season were we even 2nd in the table, our best position this season has been 3rd and now we're praying Atalanta/Verona bail us out and we manage to squeeze 4th place. Claiming Pirlo = Sarri is just delusional, Pirlo isn't just a worse coach than Sarri, he's also a worse coach than plenty of other coaches that are worse than Sarri.

We got Chiesa but we lost Dybala, Kulu has been bad and Pjanic and Matuidi are better than the current mids. Bentancur also got worse, as did Szczesny and Bonucci. Morata is an improvement on Higuain and Danilo is better than last year. Still, last year team did slightly better against weaker competition. I think the coaches are comparable on this level of coaching. Sarri would have probably won 80pts with this team, but can you say that Pirlo if he was hired a year prior, wouldn't do the same in his 2nd season? Because some point losses were just lack of experience from him

We have a better goal differential this year, and we have both scored more and conceded less than last year.

The biggest difference for me has been Pirlo’s inability to manage and adapt in those unexpectedly tight grinding sort of games that we should be winning 95% of the time. The Beneventos and Crotones. We picked up 5 of 12 points from those two teams. Add in those 7 points and a win tomorrow would give us 85 points. Then we see 1 of 6 points from a god-awful Viola that was fending off relegation zone most of the season and we have the difference between a scudetto challenge and not this year.

6 of 18 points collected against the 13th, 18th, 19th place sides in Serie A. Home losses against Viola and Benevento are completely unacceptable. Pirlo just didn’t figure out how to deal with this kind of game.

At the end of the day, the difference between them was Dybala. If Pirlo had a fit Dybala instead of a crooked one, he probably would have scored more points than Sarri did last season.

As @Post Ironic pointed out, Pirlo dropped a lot of points against bottom tier sides. When Dybala is fit, he usually destroys those teams.

Another big difference between them was the competition. This Inter team is very strong and on course to score over 90 points.

Also, Pirlo has won us a couple of trophies that Sarri lost. Although I don’t care that much about the Coppa or the SuperCoppa, at the end of the day they are still trophies.
