It really doesn't matter if he was resting Dybala for CL midweek... The point is that it is incredibly stupid considering how big a match this was, and our current position in the Serie A table. Even more so, when seeing from the very start that Dybala's creative presence and dropping deep to link midfield to attack was exactly the thing needed in this match. Not Zaza's unskilled, try-hard style that suits mid-table sides.

Morata was already here. He replaced llorente and Matri with Manzukic and zaza which is a vast improvement in depth not the first 11.
He replaced Tevez with dybala which is a vast decrease in quality for a few years atleast. Why we flexed the wallet on someone who will be a replacement for Tevez in a few years is beyond me. Still no replacement for him though.
The attack thus improved its bench but the starting 11 diminished by the difference between Tevez and Dybala which is substantial. Thats a decrease in one position.
Vidal has been replaced my Khedira and Lemina. But Vidal barely features as box to box CM last year the one that started was staruro as ball winner or marchisio as box to box. Khedira is as good as marchisio as box to box while lemina is maybe on par with staruro as ball winner. So for that position we are about the same.
Pirlo or marchisio played as distributor last year. We did not replace Pirlo and so far this season marchisio barely played. If marchisio is always fit then we are the same but since he is not then we have to consider Hernanes the replacement regista for Pirlo. Thats a significant decrease in quality. So in short the regista CM is the same if marchisio is fit or worse if he isnt. Thats a potential decrease in quality in another position.
Sandro is an improvement over Padoin obviously but both are bench players for Evra. So in Lb we are better at the bench but the same starting 11.
Licht has heart problems, thats a decrease in Rb. thats a 3rd weakening in starting 11.
Caudrado is a bonus players replacing no one so thats an magic card that he didnt have before.
The squad has changed the formation because of injuries and the introduction of Cuadrado. Thats bound to make performances worse at least for a while.
Although Allegri has an improved bench (in lb, cb, st and ball winning cm), he has a weaker starting 11. The attack is weakened by Dybala replacing Tevez, the midfield is weakened by hernanes replacing Pirlo (when marchisio is not 100% fit which has been the case so far), and the defense has been weakened by the death of licht. Caudrado as a magic card is an improvement but its at the cost of a switch in formations and having to accommodate atleast 3 new players in the starting 11 which will balance it out. This leaves us with the net loss of the gap between (Tevez and dybala) + Licht + Pirlo.
Allegri doesn't have an easy job at all given the weakening of the starting 11 and all our competitors have improved at the same time. Having said that, we are definitely not 9 points worse than our competitors. We should atleast be their equals in the long run. Marotta didnt manage the market properly but Allegri so far has under-performed using what he has got. We should still finish 1st or 2nd and qualify from the CL group stage. If achieve this then I'd say thats a good season by Allegri.
Next year we should be adding another SS (hopefully a more finished product than Dybala), a very good regista CM to alternate with Marchisio and a RB to replace Licht. 3 good signings and this squad will be set to compete for all titles again if we will play 3-5-2. If we will play a 4-3-1-2 then add a CAM to the mix. If we are moving to a 4-3-3 then we will have to buy 1 winger at least for each side.

If this is true it's utter retarded by Allegri. First, because Dybala only starts every other week and being 21 he should be fit enough to play 2 matches a week, second because A win today would have hugely boosted our confidence. And third, look at where we are in the table, we can't afford not to field our best players in such big matches. Inter is only 1 point away from the top, we're almost 10.
Plus, he really didn't play for Argentina, so it's not a matter of being tired from International break. I'll have to agree with @Osman that it has to do with the way he doesn't see Dybala fitting his tactical plan on more than one occasion. I too think it had nothing to do with resting the kid but he just didn't want to start him.

A lot of comments here would've been the exact opposite if Khedira scored from that shot that hit the post. We would've picked up 3 points away to a full house San Siro with a clean sheet. People would've celebrated the 'brilliance' of Allegri.

I don't work with "ifs" but I'll humor you. No, he wouldn't have been brilliant if that ball went in. I'd still complain about the fact he chose physicality or whatever the fuck was in his mind over quality by benching our most creative striker. and top scorer btw. Zaza should never start big matches when we have better options on the bench, that shouldn't even need to be said.
