Oh LB :seven:

:agree: I always associate #4 with gritty players for some reason
And I don't like how we hand our the numbers these days. :p To me it always has to be like this.
1 Goalkeeper
2 Right back
3 Left back
4 CB
5 CB
6 (Defensive) CM
7 Right midfielder
8 Left midfielder
9 Striker
10 Striker
11 (Offensive) CM

Teams hand our their numbers wrong these days... :disagree:

Yeah some of that comes down to lesser players or squad players coming in and being given the choice to take these numbers, alongside Italian footballers penchant for ridiculous numbers like 88 or 99. Then again as you mentioned, some players tend to keep their numbers from their days in the youth squad also.

In Juve you've got leeches hogging numbers like 9, 11 and 6.

no way...7 was kinda the cm, trequartista, the leader of midfield.
10 - the favourite number of all, it could be a mid or a striker
all numbers down to 7 - defense
11- classical offense number. don't remember a classy striker with 11 on his shirt (i don't think about nt numbers)

There's no hard rule about it, the same numbers mean different things in places.
Take the number 13 in Germany it's renowned for being a out and out goalscorers such as gerd mullet whilst in Holland it is more appropriated to the hounding midfielder Johan Neeskens. Same as what no5 means in Germany, England and Argentina. All different things.
