If he continues to improve and makes our defence, I'd prefer we buy him than a big name like Rafinha who'd be an uncertainty (as all new signings are).
I agree with this. I see no point in shelling out the same amount of cash for a player who might be better than Caceres but could just as well flop, when we know that Caceres works just as good. Like you said though, a lot depends on if he continues to improve. If he stays at this level, then jump for Rafinha.

Does anybody know if Caceres takes up an non-EU spot? I'm pretty sure Rafinha has an Italian passport, so he wouldn't take up a spot.

Same here and especially with Rafinha who could potentially be a big risk ( not really proven in Europe or even in Germany).

12 million pounds is a fair deal for this palyer. He is very young and has made a few mistakes but his best is VERY good. Remember Chellini 3-4 years ago the commentators used too say he is not a Juventus standard player and now he is the best in the world.

He has good pace, good tackling, good passing and can score. Take the punt it will pay off!!!!!

i think he proved himself at shalke sateeh. i would choose him over caceres just because caceres is so inconsistent.
At Schalke yes, made that right position his. But i think if caceras continues improving and reaches a good consistent level i would take him over rafinha. Rafinha did/doing great for Schalke but he is better than most RBs in the bundesliga. So to me he would be equal to an improved caceras, hence why i would take the latter.

rafinha is experienced, he is starting every game, and caceres didn't played at barca..did played at juve but half of the matches...so for that amount of cash i would take rafinho without thinking.

I think guys here rate Caceres because he works pretty hard. In another word, they like he's "attitude".

Performance wise am not impressed by the guy. Going forward he's decent but defesively he's shaky. People have hope that "maybe" one day in the future he'll improve defensively but what happens if he didn't ?! We'd be screwed big time.

I'd rather take a young fullback who's great defensively but average in the attack than someone who's great in the attack but error-prone defensively.

Again i won't judge the guy just yet but so far am not impressed by him.

Everyone keeps saying he's so shaky in defense. Number one he's being played out of position. Number two defending as a right-back and a center-back require two completely different styles of play and they also require you do carry out different tasks while on the pitch.

Just because you can play one position doesn't mean you were born with the defensive knowledge and prowess to play anywhere across the back line. Players need time to fully learn a new role, something rarely accomplished during 10-12 games. That being said, he's miles ahead of any other option we have at RB.
