Decent player.

But no matter how I look at it, I don't understand his arrival. Regardless of looking at the short or long term.
same here

starting eleven
buffon
licht-barzagli-bonucci- chiellini
marchisio-pirlo-vidal
pepe-matri-vucinic

bench
storari, de ceglie, giacherini, pazienza, esti, alex, quag

extra players for depth
sorensen, manninger, marronne, toni, elia, (appelt) + (a whole full primavera squad who are currently leading the league)

deadwood
motta, grosso, amauri, iaquinta, krasic

Can someone explain me where Borrielo or Pizzarro fits in?
someone like cacares makes sense to replace de ceglie on the bench and then put him at extra players.

Injuries/suspensions will come for sure, so the bench and the starting eleven will change, as a central striker in 4-3-3 for me is not a Del piero position, Quagliarella is ok there, but I would rather have Boriello as a sub there for Matri ( even if im not a fan of Boriello) but he is good as a target player and can hold the ball, and is a decent finisher both with his feet and head. Pizzaro for me is alot better then Patienza even if he is old now. If I would pick one of them I would pick Pizzaro without any doubt, ok Patienza would be good to throw in when we are ahead in the end, but the same goes for Pizzaro as he is a master of holding the ball in the team. IMO Boriello,Caceres,Pizzaro all makes the bench atleast.

As I see Boriello as the most suited back up to Matri, then Delpiero,Quagliarealla,Esti, Giaccherini is 4 players that can come in and play on the same position, even if Giaccherini and Esti is flexible and could play other positions. One of these four wouldent be needed on the bench even if injuries/suspensions will come and that will change things.
Caceres could even start but then Bonucci would be on the bench instead of him

If everyone is able to play which will be almost every week since we play once a week. So there won't be many injuries.
I still think all those players on the bench deserved to be on the bench. I would never drop Quag or Alex so Borrielo can sit on the bench would you? If things don't work out with Matri as a striker then we can replace him with Quag or Vuci and play different kind of football. (more moving away from the ball instead of a targetman). I might drop Pazienza for Pizzarro but I am to unsure about his health. Cacares I don't doubt. But an other midfielder or striker isn't needed in my eyes. and I even putted the extra players there who can easily sit on the bench too if needed.
We can't drop esti, elia and giacherini totally from the squad since they just arrive
And when you hear conte talks about Elia he will get his change

And if conte thinks we needed a new striker he could maybe bring immobile back who is the same level as borrielo and is a targetman too.

Tak!

Quantity over quality, back to reality. Borriello has had one decent season (Milan) and one good season (Genoa) in his whole career. I'm not saying he's bad but that he is average. If we didn't have deadwood with the same abilities as Boriello possess I would consider this a decent signing. Right now I'm hoping for him to fail and for us to not spend 7,5 mln on something we can get cheaper and better elsewhere. I wanted a WC striker to replace Matri who is imo a really good backup but not a player who will bring us trophies as a starter. Instead we strike a deal with a player who I ain't too sure is more useful than Toni. Right now he feels like a new Toni/Iaquinta/Amauri.

We continue to spend money just for the heck of it.

Well, if Amauri, Iaquinta and Toni are heading out this January, then this transfer makes a lot of sense to me.

It would leave us with Matri, Quagliarella, Del Piero and Borriello up top.

Del Piero is not the player he was, by miles, and what if Matri and/or Quag was to be injured?

Borriello comes on the cheap and provides us with options in attack. That's all there really is to it.

Considering the fact that those 3 played a combined total of 0 minutes, replacing them with a cardboard cut out of Borriello would make just as much sense, wouldn't it?

that is what I am saying too
we don't need an other striker :sergio:

And who thinks Borriello will just sit in the stands every week without complain? why would he leave Roma for that, at Roma he atleast sat at the bench.

it is not so much an argument of quality vs quantity, it is an argument of compatibility, as far as i see it we lack a proper prima punta upfront, hence why we have been recently linked with the likes of Damiao, as much as i like matri and quags they are 2 different strikers from each other and to that of Borriello too. As i see it he is a short term solution in order to consolidate our position and objectives in the league, how many time have we been left frustrated cause Matri is unable to cope playing alone? as i see it Borriello is better suited to this role, hence why he is compatible to Conte's system, and because of that i fully support this move.
