can't say that zala is superimportant to juve. he can be a good finisher in the last minutes of a game. maybe put him on the field if we REALLY need goals. Other than that we don't need zala - and he can easily be replaced. i'm amazed that he has quietly been sitting on the juve bench for so long. it's one thing to be loyal - but i think zala is maybe a bit to passive. it doesn't really seem like he wants to play a whole lot. any thoughts?

Zalayeta is ideal for a 5th choice striker, hes happy to be bottom of the que and gives his all on the pitch, i would hardly call him important, but hes certainly a useful guy to have!

What does evryone on here have against Zalayeta?!

He is a decent player, never complains about being on the bench, and can be relied on to give committed performances when he does play.

Do u remember a few seasons ago when he played most of our games upfront with DP. I seem to remember him scoring alot of gols and playing very well.

It was the season Trez missed alot of matches because he had to have an operation on his shoulder.

he doesnt complain but that doesnt make him good. sure he has scored some important goals over the years in important matches, but he isnt a striker who you would bring on to score goals.

im just wondering if the team needs a 5th striker at all. Next season we have serie A and coppa italia. With dp, palladino and possibly pizarro and one more striker replacing trez, is Zala needed.

Another aspect to it all is whether Zalayeta deserves to join a team where he would start. he isn't young anymore.

:agree:

i know he's just an avarage player , but since he gave all of his best over the years to us , he got my deepest respect , no matter how it would be for next season .

i guesss it's fair to say that he hasnt been jaw-droppingly awesome whenever he's come onto the pitch to prove that he's a star striker and that he deserves a permanant place in the line-up.

but as msot of you guys have been saying, he's scored a few times...a few winning goals(i remember him scoring a long range goal once during some UCL match). so he does deserve the respect.

but if Juve manage to find a better player, then loanin him out with the option of buying him wud be a good option.

The mysterious thing about Zalayeta is that no-one is entirely sure about how much we actually paid for him all those years ago. I remember some thread that discussed this a year or two ago.

That centered around his worth to the squad and the likely fee he would raise if he were to be transferred away from Juve. Estimates ranged from £5m to £10m as to the transfer toJuve.
You're kidding, right? I'm sure we got him for peanuts from Penarol.

Juventus claim they have spoken to Pompey about selling them players.
Strikers Fabrizio Miccoli and Marcelo Zalayeta and defender Robert Kovac are said to be among the Juve squad on offer
.

Fabrizio Miccoli almost joined Pompey 18 months ago

Juventus officials say they have had meetings with Pompey, Bolton and Middlesbrough.

Pompey boss Harry Redknapp insisted he had not been involved in any talks and had not made inquiries for the players.

But the availability of Miccoli is intriguing.

Pompey agreed a loan deal with Juventus for the forward 18 months ago.

But the 27-old striker preferred to join Benfica on loan instead.
Miccoli scored twice for Benfica in the Champions League this season.

But criticism of his form and weight means Benfica are not expected to push for a permanent deal.

Uruguayan forward Zalayeta, 28, is said to be surplus to requirements at the Stadio Delli Alpi together with Croatia centre-half Kovac, 32, a free-transfer from Bayern Munich two years ago.

Juve sporting director Alessio Secco said
: 'Our mission in England was with the aim of opening contacts with medium-small clubs like Middlesbrough, Bolton and Portsmouth.

'We want to open a relationship with a view to possible sales.'

Redknapp, however, insisted it was news to him.

He said: 'They're obviously all good players, but no-one has spoken to me about anything.

'I've not made any inquiries for anyone.'

Zala is a waste of space and money...

let him go ASAP....even though we wont get more than a full tank of fuel for the team bus for him
