ok so i have got it all installed now and it looks great, the only problem i have is that it is very sluggish at the moment. internet especially is running very slowly, hoping its just teething problem, i am currently downloading updates for it so here'ss hoping
should i remove all traces of windows from my system?

It's good to keep your options open. Personally I would leave it around. If something breaks, you still have one usable (well, semi usable anyway 
) operating system. Then if everything works out you'll stop thinking about it being there. Then later on suddenly you'll remember it's still there and that'll be a good time to remove it.

i did a dual boot installation, the thing is it was slow and sluggish before the updates but it is like its trying to process rafts of info all the time.
the thing i was wondering about is would i have to re-install my broadband?i use sky broadband and this is totally geared towards windows......not sure if this is where the problem is.
you see the cd should just eb to get it up and running and to set up the line, but with switching OS,would i automatically go back to it and if not, where do i check?

Network problems can be incredibly complicated, but generally when it comes to connecting to your existing broadband connection it either works or it doesn't. It rarely partly-works.

When you say "it is sluggish" what do you mean by that? Is the network connection sluggish or is the computer sluggish? When is it sluggish? All the time?

ok basically, after i boot the pc up and sign in it takes about 5 minutes to get to work. even then when i try to open something it takes some time.
with the internet, yes it works but it takes around 2 minutes to load up any page, it flashes from the usual screen to dark gray. when i checked the network it only had a microsoft network there. i mean i guess since the internet is working(albeit slowly) then it should be fine once i get the softwear working properly.
not sure whether to just sign in and leave it for a while to see if it works itself out or if i can check where teh problem is

ok guys, after seeing bozi switch to linux. my windows crashed as usual this time thanks to a bloody virus, but before i do my switch i need to know the answers for the following:
1- which linux should i download is it ubuntu or sth else and from which site ( if possible)
2- would applications such as sn messenger, skype, football manger, etc work or will they need specially designed applications or versions?
3- will i need to get the supporting software for my sound card and video card or does the operating system autoatically sorts it out with out the need for there respective softwares?
4 can i download linux now and just install it while i still have windows or its not possible unless i format the partition that has windows on it?
