I'll probably wait until I've got a good block of time available once I finish up with my job at the end of the month, since I'll have to do a whole backup-format-reinstall.

btw how can I just remove my existing Ubuntu installation without touching Windows? I know I could ask on the Ubuntu forums, but I'm lazy, plus I prefer to ask here.

run the installer, tell it to format your existing ubuntu install, easy as that

But you won't be able to boot Windows unless you re-write your MBR as well, because GRUB messed it up.
Why is that? That's kind of strange, since installing Ubuntu for the first time on a different partition still allows GRUB to see the Windows partition?

GRUB recognizes other OSes with no problems, however once you format your ubuntu partition you will loose your GRUB configuration file. Meaning you won't be able to boot Windows unless you re-write Windows's MBR OR untill you re-install Ubuntu and GRUB does its magic again(recognizes Windows again).

I think we misunderstood each other, I thought you were removing Ubuntu for some time and want to use just Windows, if that were the case you'd have to rewrite your MBR in order to boot Windows. But if you're just doing a fresh install of Ubuntu than you'll have no problems, GRUB will recognize Windows and that's it, you'll be able too boot both.

Mhm..from your post I think it's pretty safe to say you are a gamer. If that is true Ubuntu is probably not for you, though some games, WOW is one of them I think, can be emulated to work under linux it's still far from a gaming OS.

Linux is not Windows, so if you want to play games it's not the choice for you, you should stick with Windows.

Or Dual boot! Or better yet leave gaming for one PC, and for all his other uses, which Linux by far excels, on another ;)
