what i'd like for feisty most is a less sillier name. :D
I actually like the name :) I didn't even know what the heck an "eft" was...

Mark Shuttleworth announced the name of the next release of Ubuntu due in April. The release will be named Feisty Fawn “in the spirit of a young deer that sets out to explore a world that is new and exciting”

btw Martin, that perfectly illustrates what you were referring to earlier re: software updates/releases :)

good points by martin. something about the codecs and graphcis card drivers should be done.

i'd also like a more "KDE/GNOME way" to make my internet connection. going through a wiki and searching for pppoe, than entering a terminal is not what i have in mind. it's not a problem anymore but when i first tried ubuntu it was a pain in the ass. this is a must have thing. they should make a wizard after the first boot which will let you configure your internet connection. that's something every distro should have imo.

I have no problem with Fawn, but coupling it with Feisty just brings up all these sexual ideas in my head:D

Funky Fawn?:p

i still don't know what an eft is. that don't stop me from using it though. :D

i don't like ubuntu's code names in general, they sound silly, original, but still silly.

Not at all, there are bugfix releases and there are feature releases. Ubuntu Edgy is the latter, touted as being the forward looking version with a lot of new stuff, bound to be somewhat unstable. Then there are times when they do a complete feature freeze and only work on fixing bugs. Not all releases are created equal.

That was always possible anyway. You can stream the music right off their websites and record it if you choose to, amarok just made it a lot easier to browse the entire collection and drag/drop onto your playlist etc.

after installing edgy, i've actually encountered a lot of crashes as compared to dapper. Kopete, amaroK, Opera have all crashed at least once. sometimes Kopete doesnt even connect to my accounts at all. i have to close nd reopen it to solve that(though i dont think the Kopete problem to too largely related to Edgy).

I've looked around on various forums, but I can't find the answer I'm looking for, so here I am again :)

I'm trying to save as much space on my top menu bar as possible, so I'd like to replace the "Applications, Places, System" text with icons only. How do I go about doing this? I've looked around the menu bar options in the Configuration Editor but there's no such option

don't know why you'd need that, and i don't think it is possible to do that. however, ubuntu system panel might just be something that could help you out.

The thought of getting rid of the text didn't occur to me either until I saw this screenshot:

http://www.ubuntux.org/dapper-drake-with-gdesklets-dock

btw the reason I stumbled upon that screenie is because I was looking for a decent dock program. I'm using the gDesklets StarterBar right now, but stupidly enough there's no "Always on Top" option, so I'm probably going to scrap it pretty soon.

Haha, funny you should mention USP, because I installed it literally about 10 seconds ago and I was going to ask if anyone is using it :)

Hmm now that I've got USP running, I think I'll just get rid of the Applications Places and System menus altogether :D

man it's easier to put those icons on the damn desktop. that's what it's for. :D
Nah, I'm too much of a minimalist to have ANY icons on my desktop, and I'm used to being able to launch programs without having to switch to desktop view :(

btw what's the shortcut key for hiding and unhiding all windows?

EDIT: While I'm at it, I'd damn well like to change the Date/Clock format so it displays 01/11 instead of "Wed Nov 1"... can you tell I'm very conservative with my space? :D

Oh, installing Gentoo will allow me to do that? Hmm (considers "doing a Jeeks")

btw, you gotta love this one:

New Windows Attack

The attack requires you to be using the Windows Firewall and running the Internet Connection Service (which enables shared internet connections). I can think of only a few instances where that service is actually useful. And second, let's go back to point number one, it requires you to be running the Windows Firewall... yeah, right because I sure am... forget about the Windows Firewall and wow... all these problems go away. Amazing, isn't it?

gentoo is for control freaks like me. But I don't recommend you install it until you know your way around linux quite well, because it's a lot to handle.

That Windows report sounds like a storm in a tea cup. Not even a storm, more like wind.

An easier solution, may be for ICS users to simply move their networks onto a router or NAT (Network Address Translation) device
No shit Sherlock. Using Windows as a router is just very misguided.
