And another thing, the laptop I am getting does not have an optical drive, do I have to connect an external one or is there another way to do it?

Your install will work like any LiveCD. After that you might have to fiddle around to get your Wifi, Ethernet, Brightness Control etc. fixed. So you might have to spend a bit of time on Google trying to find the fix that works for you. Good thing about Arch based OSs are that Arch itself has an excellent community and most fixes that work on Arch work on Chakra/Antergos.

You can use LiveUSB.

I have never used LiveUSB, does it work the same way as LiveCD or do I need a special image for that?

Antergos did not boot from Live USB and I really can't stand KDE 4 old experience but I think I got traumatized. I am trying Arch Bang which runs Openbox as default.

The Linux DE is in shambles. Both KDE4 and GNOME 3 suck. Been using Mate for a while, better than both but a lot lacking

KDE4 and Gnome3 have shown us that just because you're established doesn't mean you make the right decisions. Still running Cinnamon here, quite happy with it.

Mint? Ran Cinnamon for a while 2010-2012. Was OK. Just didn't feel like Gnome in its heyday (listen to me talking like a Linux old-timer tsk tsk).

Been running Mate on a rMBP. Highly advise against it. Avoid Apple at all costs!

That is the idea of their convergent mobile platform. Runs on all "4 types of screens."

Haven't really looked into it.
Yeah I've seen some videos about that. I have a 13" laptop which runs windows 8. I want to install Ubuntu but I prefer having a touch interface.

I am installing an i5 Thinkpad

Is Mate Gnome 3 and Cinnamon Gnome 2?
No. Afaik I know Mate does not make use of compositing at all, so you can compare it to *pure* Gnome 2 without Compiz or whatever, while Cinnamon is/uses a fork of gnome-shell.

However, it's not about the cpu. The compositing effects cinnamon makes use of can easily be handled by an integrated Intel chip. I'm running cinnamon on an (rather) old x201s here. No problems at 1440x900 with an Intel HD 3000.
