MBR means the master boot record. That is the part of your harddrive which determines which operating system will boot. Usually when Windows is installed, it overwrites whatever exists in the MBR. Therefore it's better first to install Windows, then Linux, because Ubuntu will give you the option to boot both of them :)

You can install Win 7 after Ubuntu. Once that is done, you can boot into the Live CD and reinstall GRUB as your boot manager. Bear in mind that Win 7 should be installed on a primary partition. IF not, then GRUB won't detect Win 7. for this same reason, I had to wipe out my hard drive and reinstall Windows into a primary partition. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Shit thats gonna be a hell lot of work. isnt there a safe option??
Don't worry too much. If this is your first time then you're going to make some mistakes. Everyone does. It probably will take longer than you thought, but in the end it will work. Just hang in there.

Karmic Koala bitches :weee:

Took me 2 hrs 55 mins to update (download and install)... Fairly easy process...

The OS looks neat, and seems faster than the Jaunty Jackalope... The boot time is slower though (at least thats the first impression)...

Martin, I made the same mistake I do every time and I upgraded. Is there a way to bring my system back to how it was yesterday?

I'm in the process of making that mistake at the moment, upgrade taking forever to download the packages. But before I started I made a backup..
