RIP
I think serie A is losing more and more fans.. this is really sad.
Exactly, but for what? This effected the playing on the pitch in no way. I wish fans would just keep there feelings, for what should be contributing to atmosphere in the stadium, inside it.

italian police is so fucked up anyway

RIP
And the police always fuck up in football events. I also recognise that avatar :D

i see no real benefit in this occurring. alongside that is the baseline of $$$$$$$$ and serie A is a business 1st and foremost and it would be nearly impossible to shut it down and then to expect positive results and feedback. its all about the money and thats why i do not see this as feasible or achievable.

    Abete unsure of future

Italian Football Federation President Giancarlo Abete is refusing to rule out a suspension of the Serie A season or a ban on travelling fans.

Calcio is once again in crisis after the accidental shooting of a Lazio fan by a police officer led to violent protests from Ultras across the peninsula.

“It was a very sad day,” Abete told Radio Anch’io Sport. “We need to take stock of public opinion and have meetings between all the areas of the game.

“I don’t know what will happen and it seems risky to say anything now, but there is a problem that goes beyond a possible suspension of the championship.”

Aside from a possible hiatus in the Serie A campaign, Abete discussed whether or not away fans would be allowed to attend games.

“You can’t solve a problem just by banning people,” he stressed. “The answer isn’t to stop people watching football.

“As far as travelling fans are concerned we are looking at public safety before we make any decisions.

“I’m not ready to think that in 10 years time there will be a situation where you can only watch your team on TV.”

    Preziosi: Stop Serie A

Genoa President Enrico Preziosi has called for a long break in the Serie A season after the weekend’s turmoil.

After the chaotic events of the weekend, the Rossoblu patron doesn’t want to see the problem brushed under the carpet.

“You can’t pretend that nothing happened yesterday,” Preziosi told Radio Kiss Kiss. “This is the umpteenth demonstration that something isn’t working.

“I don’t agree with banning away fans. Why should we have to stop honest citizens who want to watch a game in another city?”

Preziosi’s solution to the current crisis is one of the more radical suggestions to be proposed over the last 24 hours.

“It’s not right to punish everyone just to stop a few. Rather than stop a single game or ban away fans, I’d be inclined to suspend the championship until something changes.

“Two or three months off would help show the world of football it’s true nature.

“I don’t believe in the culture of prohibition, rather I think we need to apply the rules that we already have.

“The laws are there to stop these events, but they are never fully applied. I think it’s time to call an end to this.”
    ----------------------------------------

Things are not really going well for Italian football it seems and I think that Preziosi is right about away fans. Away fans should be allowed to travel but at the same time his suggestion to stop the league for a couple of months is absurd. If the authorities cannot do something about the situation they they'd better shoot themselves.

Stopping the championship would make it seem that these idiots won. Play on!

They want to stop away fans that come in mass from going to the games and if things happen outside the stadiums the game can be suspended.

But that is bullshit, if away fans were stopped it will be more chaos outside the stadium on a larger scale. It will be in the whole city not just on one location.

if they stop serie A it will so much appeal, look even more stupid and piss a lot of people off.

itn will also hinder many players progress and will surely deter playes from coming to serie A in future.

Gabriele Sandri had no part in the fight though. He was supposedly (by reports) resting in a car while the fight was occurring.
It's tragic and wrong what happened. But even if I'm in the backseat of a car with 4 other street thugs who are picking fights with another group of random strangers at a highway rest stop, I'm not exactly scoring big on my crisis and violence avoidance skills.

Italian Sports Minister Calls For Serie A Suspension

    Preziosi: Stop Serie A
This is so bullshit. Fans who wear club colors hundreds of km from any actual game or stadium stir up trouble, cops get involved and totally screw it up, and everyone who attends and watches the sport is now being penalized for it.

What next? We find out that the perpetrators of all this disagreed on whether Maria Callas or Luciano Pavarotti was the better opera singer, and so all opera performances are to be banned henceforth?

The people perpetrating the riots and violence, and the people attempting to address it, seem equally out of their minds.

Following is a short chronology of some major incidents of soccer violence at club and international level since 1990:

January 1995 - Italian sports authorities suspended all national sport scheduled for the following Sunday after the killing of a young Genoa fan before a game with AC Milan.

March 1995 - A 17-year-old fan was killed in a fight after a Turkish first division derby match between Fenerbahce and Galatasaray.

August 1995 - A Turkish supporter of Sakaryaspor was killed after being hit by a stone thrown by followers of Duzcespor.

March 1997 - An Ajax Amsterdam fan was killed in a pre-arranged battle with supporters of Feyenoord.

March 1998 - A fan was killed in fighting following a match between English sides Gillingham and Fulham.

October 1999 - A fan was killed as Red Star Belgrade followers ripped up thousands of seats and clashed with riot police after a 2-0 defeat by city rivals Partizan.

April 2000 - Two Leeds United fans were stabbed to death in Istanbul before a UEFA Cup semi-final against Galatasaray.

April 2001 - A 25-year-old German died from head wounds sustained as he tried to escape from rioting fans at a friendly match between amateur side Darmstadt 98 and first-division Eintracht Frankfurt.

June 2002 - A man was stabbed to death and drunken football fans rioted in Moscow after Russia lost a World Cup game in Japan.

March 2003 - One Polish fan was killed and 120 arrested after street battles during a second-division match in the southwestern city of Wroclaw.

November 2006 - A policeman shot dead one man and injured another while under attack from Paris St Germain fans who were chasing a Jewish supporter of Israeli team Hapoel Tel Aviv at a UEFA Cup match.

February 2007 - A policeman was killed during fan clashes at a Serie A match between Catania and Palermo. The league was suspended for a period following the death and strict new safety rules brought in.

November 2007 - Enraged football fans rioted around parts of Italy after a clash between Lazio and Juventus fans led to the shooting of a Lazio supporter by a police officer in the Tuscan city of Arezzo, far from any stadium. Police said the shooting was an accident.

-- The match between Atalanta Bergamo and AC Milan was abandoned after seven minutes when fans tried to break down a glass barrier keeping them from the pitch. Two other Serie A matches - Inter Milan v Lazio and AS Roma v Cagliari - were postponed.

This wasn't an acciendent. If the cop was trying to calm down the crowd normally they would shoot directly up in the air, so tell me how this lazio fan was shot from 100m away in the neck? That doesn't seem fishy to anyone?

The first bullet was shot in the air, the second shot was fired unintentionally when the cop run towards the crowd.

I know. How many times does that happen to a trained officer?
But you have seen those classic YouTube videos of police officers demonstrating gun safety in front of high school students, shooting themselves in the foot -- right?

It's not frequent. But anytime you're dealing with weapons, you're not going to be 100%. Which is why even firing warning shots is a danger, as Vinman pointed out.
