Second half of the Spalletti - Totti clash

http://www.fotmob.com/news/world/i...out+of+Roma+squad+after+Spalletti+criticism/

Roma captain Francesco Totti has been omitted from the team's squad for Sunday's Serie A match against Palermo after publicly criticising coach Luciano Spalletti.

Spalletti had previously hinted Totti could be in the Roma team for the Palermo match but appeared to change his mind after the 39-year-old's outburst.

Reports in Italy claimed Totti stormed out after being informed by Spalletti that he was not in the squad for the Palermo match.
For the first time in months Roma are playing well and then Totti..

There isn't much difference of how Totti is/was treated and how Del Piero was treated, therefore I wouldn't laugh a lot, the only difference is that Totti can't keep his mouth shut while Ale is too class and always wanted to avoid a tension for Juve's sake but technically Del Piero was treated even worse because he did say publicly that he would sign on a blank sheet for Juve for another year and yet was forced out gently while replacing him with Anelka and Bendtner when he could have easily played for another year, whereas Roma management did say many times that Totti could stay as much as he wants (even if they exaggerated but that's how you treat a club most important legend).

I would have loved Del Piero bashing the treatment he received but that's just me and I know Ale is too class for that but my ego would say if I was in his place, Fuck both Conte and Agnelli I am more important, valuable, gave more than these two combined and the biggest club legend but he didn't do that because he's Del Piero.

Totti went on public and that's him, but do I blame him? No I don't, I do believe that players like Del Piero, Maldini, Totti, Buffon etc should be treated differently.

When you give your all to the club and stick in the good and bad and reject millions to move away because you're committed emotionally and have a bond with the fans then you should be treated and handled differently. Unfortunately, none of Del Piero and Totti were treated up to their legendary status/names.

You could deny as much as you want that Del Piero's exit was good and not that bad but guess what? For Del Piero it wasn't and that's what matters.

I think Del Piero just wanted 20 years with Juve. Surely he didn't think he was going to retire here, especially considering that he is still trying to play now aged 41.

Obviously Alex didn't agree with the timing but I for one did, he deserved a more important role somewhere but wasn't at a level to have it with Juve. When you look at our team progression it's clear we made the correct sporting choice. Sentiment does come into it but the club works in another way, we're not Udinese or Chievo.

Totti is in a similar boat, he can go abroad if he wants to stroll about spraying passes and shots.

Exactly, and how would you reject Del Piero offering himself for one more year? What's even worse "Matri, Anelka, Bendtner" where on the bench instead of him.

That's because Ale never complained when he was benched in his final year.
He definitely didn't publicly, unlike that clown Totti. But I think it's pretty clear he wasn't happy with the limited amount of time Conte was giving him.

I would've really hated to have seen Ale getting the playing time of Anelka or Bendtner, as these guys were given few odd minutes now and then. But if that was his wish, if he was perfectly fine with this status of 4th/5th pick then we should have given him 1 year extension.

having alex on the bench for the entire season and giving him like 10 minutes as a time wasting sub would have been even worse.

alex got his standing ovation against atalanta - that could have been the perfect ending. that coppa final, though...

ofc, but he was aware that club has a good chance to win title and didn't want to disrupt the atmosphere. Massive respect to him for that.

These were the Strikers when Ale left: Vucinic, Quag, Matri, Anelka, Bendtner.

If someone really thinks apart from Vucinic and Quag that the other three are in any way better to be a 3rd choice strikers then I rest my case.

Any half intelligent coach or even director would know that it takes Del Piero a simple touch, a freekick, an experience on the field to make a difference and to pick him ahead of the three names mentioned.

But people ignore or are too naive to tell the fact that it was at some point personal decision and not tactical.

For you it was, for him it wasn't. Who are you to decide in his shoes?

He's better than that, that's the point. He barely played in his last season with us, 500 minutes in the league out of a maximum 3400 or so. He was a Coppa Italia player. Vucinic was clear first choice and he ended up behind the likes of Borriello and Matri. Who knows how bad it would have been another year later.

He left at the right time. If anything maybe even a year too late.

Which makes me conclude that it was not a technical decision but personal to force him out and give him no other choice. Only Vucinic I would have put him ahead of Del Piero in his last season.

Therefore what I was saying, Laughing at Totti whereas Dp was treated even worse except that he kept quiet isn't smart.
