Costacurta was a part of the Milan for which Berlusconi was spending millions. Replacing players every year doesn't nullify the fact that they're trying to form a family like of club which is the main reason for their failure IMO. They just can't get rid of their aging players. They had to keep playing their veterans such as Maldini, Costacurta, Albertini even at the times they were out of form. I don't know what's so good about being "a family" when it's the exact meaning of being unprofessional.
Costacurta is similar to Maldini. Club legend. Take Buffon and Del Piero for a comparison. We'll never tell these guys to leave or retire until they decide to do it.
Costacurta was a bench player for almost a decade. They had Maldini, Nesta, Stam, Roque Junior, Laursen, Kaladze etc playing as starters. Maldini is their Del Piero.
Even the Milan fans hate the "we're family" thing because they also think it's just an excuse for the awful mercato they're having in the last years. They can't replace the old players with better players so they say that they're doing it because they are a family and they trust the veterans and they owe them a lot.
Yeah, right.
