As great as it looks, that is a pretty old team to play in all fronts. No wonder it was destroying everything in the first part of the season and falling apart in the 2nd.
25 year old Zlatan was by far the youngest in that team of 30 year olds.

We were bad in the CL. In the games against Liverpool and Arsenal, we were totally outclassed and we had no plan whatsoever to score a pity goal.

In the second part of the season. At the same time we were bad in serie A too if you remember. It was an old team that was played without being given any rest whatsover. Squad rotation wasn't something Capello was particularly fond of.

In the first part of the season we set records in serie A and in CL in both seasons we did very well, once winning the group with 5-1-0 and the second time we won it with 5-0-1. Both times it was Bayern that we beat for the 1st place. But as time was passing by we were weaker and weaker.
While Ancelotti was setting his team to start slower and improve over time, Capello was doing the opposite.

Apart from Cannavaro, Thuram and Nedved who were old at that time, Vieira, Emerson and Camo were as old as Zlatan and Xavi are now :shifty: Zambrotta and Trez were even younger. They must have been able to play up to their standards in two fronts. And it's not like we could go further than the quarters anyway. But we had Zlatan :seven:

I'm simply telling you that the age and lack of rotation of 30 or 30+ old players was one of the main reasons why was this team playing worse and worse as time was passing by. In serie A too we had some 15pts advantage which we almost lost in March and April.

Well, at least we were winning the scudetti.
But we had Zlatan ;)

Better fail in CL and win the scudetto with Zlatan then fail everywhere without Zlatan.

In that season we won the Scudetto despite of having Zlatan. No need to mention that broken offside record and 0 goals in Champions League.
As a matter of fact....I know this might be a shock for you....the list of Juve's goalscorers in that season in CL is:

1. Trezeguet 6
2. Ibrahimovic 3
3. Del Piero 2
4. Nedved 2
5. Mutu 1
6. Emerson 1

Having Zlatan automatically means getting humiliated in the CL. Ask Barca fans :jvefan:

Turk said that Zlatan scored 0 goals in CL that year. I was telling him that he was wrong, giving him the list of goalscorers in CL in that particular year he was talking about.

Do you disagree with that list? Was there a way to answer him which was gonna be less honest or more honest? Is every stat that doesn't go your way dishonest?

I am not shocked, probably it was 2004/2005 which he scored 0 goals in Champions League. At least he was performing well in Serie A but in 2005/2006 he became a complete stomachache just because he didn't get the pay rise he wants.

I'd take a CL humiliation with both hands (Can it get worse than our humiliation last year?) if in return we win a scudetto.

Would you rather we end up 7th in serie A and smash out of both CL and EL with 1:4 defeats, but only not to have Zlatan in the team?

Actually, knowing you, you would.

That was the year Arsenal went on their greatest ever achievement, no? 2nd place in Champions League.
Ya, but it was our worst ever season domestically. It was the only time that we were outside the top four for most of the season, in fact we only got 4th place in the last round, and only because 5 Tottenham players got food poisoning before the game against West Ham, that they subsequently lost. Oh and don't forget we had almost our entire backline missing in those two games against you guys :p

Zlatan had nothing to do with Juve getting knocked out that season, the whole team did very badly i recall. Trezeguet was no better than Zlatan in that game.

Our team in the return leg wasn't particularly impressive either. We had Giannichedda as our creator. Mutu was playing on the right wing, young Chiellini as a left back and Robert Kovac in CB.
