Juventus coach Capello warns Del Piero
tribalfootball.com - January 19, 2005

Juventus coach Fabio Capello has warned Alessandro del Piero that his team won't carry passengers this season.

Del Piero is struggling to hold onto his first team place and Capello admitted: "We will help Del Piero in the best way, like against Cagliari where he had the opportunity to make beautiful things.

"I am convinced that he remains important for our future, but I cannot allow his form and his state of mind to dominate my thinking.

"I make the formation in order to take home the three points, not to give sympathy to individuals."

---

This is why Capello is a good manager and he will bring us trophies sooner or later.

he could talk that way if he gave Alex a full 90 minutes against Cagliari.

btw, anybody noticed the source is "tribalfootball.com" ?
So what? He obviously stated that sentence and thats all that matters. Of course some fans will still say he is an asshole because he is fielding the players he thinks can win the game.

Very good.

I would prefer that Fabio brings us trophies sooner rather than later... before his contract expires for example.

As for Del Piero, the DP realism theory suggests that he needs to get his act together... and warm some bench in the mean time.

Why not if he did not perform he should sit on the bench.....

Cmon Andy, tribal? :D Just because the story carries the quote is no evidence that it was actually uttered at any point. Fabrication aside (not exactly below tribal) a lot of these respected news outlets radically re-formulate the quotes from Italian into English, we've seen it lots of times. So when the fans become upset about something that was reported, chances are the story was reconstructed a few times along the way.

But Martin, Capello has shown that he follows this sort of policy whether or not he said it exactly the same way in the article. The actual statement he made was probably not as harsh, but we got the idea.

Nope, Martin, Tribal (which is definitely NOT reliable) just translated this from a Gazzetta Dello Sport Interview with Capello and he exactly said (in Italian): "I cannot afford to pay attention to his state of mind". In this interview, which I read and watched, he was pretty cold on DP whereas he said a lot of kind things about Cassano...I think Capello made up his mind about Del Piero, he's (for now) the coach, it's his right, but saying DP was given the chance to show his skill against Cagliari is incredibly stupid and ridiculous, he was given 15 mins!
It seems Cap doesn't like DP very much. Anyway, his biased choices made me lose all respect for him, If I ever respected that man. He justifies his choices saying that he makes formations "To bring the three points home" (per portare i tre punti a casa), which means that DP is absolutely not necessary for our victories. This is a lethal mistake and I believe Juventus & Del Piero will unfortunately pay the price of Cap's silliness when all that Zlatan-Trez (over-)hype comes to an end...I can't believe we are handing Milan (who really fields its best players TOGETHER) the Scudetto this way..
Fvck u Capello...

I'll add that the interviewer said to Cap "These are quite severe words on Del Piero" and Capello answered "Only if he gets them the wrong way"....He's fooling us, how could these words be understood otherwise? I'm really puzzled with this sycophantic monkey!

I think Capello has the right attitude. We cannot keep fielding players who are not giving their all to the club. With Del Piero's performances of late, no wonder why he said DP is not neccesary for victory. Let the man work, and then judge him after the season is over. If some of you were in Capello's shoes Del Piero would be playing all the time and doing sweet FA while we ruin another talent, Zlatan sitting on the bench.

but he gave a wrong example. how can he blame DP in Cagliari match when he only gave him 15 minutes.

Palermo offers DP's future

Del Piero offered Palermo path Thursday 20 January, 2005

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ambitious Palermo President Maurizio Zamparini is reportedly chasing Juventus idol Alessandro Del Piero.

The Rosaneri chief has long admired the Turin talisman, who has recently been relegated to the bench following David Trezeguet’s return from injury.

A number of clubs have tried to tempt the Italian international away from Turin before but none have succeeded.

However, an exit could be on the horizon given that Del Piero’s place in the starting line-up has never been more in doubt.

Meanwhile, another Bianconeri player could be heading for La Liga after Mark Iuliano joined Majorca this week.

Midfielder Stephen Appiah is being touted as an exchange player in a possible deal for Pablo Ibanez, Atletico Madrid’s 23-year-old centre-half.

The Old Lady also offloaded defender Nicola Legrottaglie to Bologna on Tuesday, which may pave the way for the arrival of Bayer Leverkusen full-back Diego Placente.

Elsewhere in the transfer market, Parma’s reserve ‘keeper Gianluca Berti has signed for Serie B side Torino.

The move may come as a surprise to current shot stopper Stefano Sorrentino, who signed a contract extension only yesterday.

Chievo have confirmed the sale of midfielder Ivone De Franceschi, who passes to Serie C outfit Padova.
