Stefano to Il Sussidario:"Yesterday there was an important meeting with the President of Sion, just as there were previously with several other clubs. There was a friendly meeting but as for now, I can't say more. We'll evaluate with Ale the offers that we got".

Degennaro (Sion) to Sky:"We introduced Stefano our project. We didn't disscus contract and money, we'll do so if there will be another meeting. We want Ale to take us to the CL. We'll try to close the deal till Thursday. Offers from England? It's better not to talk about it".

What does he mean in the last sentence?

What's your feeling about the negotiation?
We feel good. We presented our project and ideas, and we want to hear Alex, to know about his ideas.

You offered him contract for how long?
We didn't disscus it yet, but after we got Gattuso we want to achieve something important. We want to play CL football next season.

You know that if Ale will sign, you'll have to double the size of your stadium...
Yes, we know, it's a big problem for us. Even with the arrival of Gennaro Gattuso there was a strong increase of fans, we played 3 home matches in full stadium.

When will the negotiation end?
For sure before the 31. Tomorrow or the day after Ale will make a decision. Positive or Negative, we'll see..

So Ale took 48 hours to think. How do you try to convince him?
Obviously Gattuso is important, he's a good freind and played with him for many years. So he explains him and tells him how good he feels with us. What a close friend like Rino says to him is the most important thing. Of course another thing that helps is that Sion is close to Torino. He can win the championship here, there's less pressure, and you live better in Switzerland.

Number 10 shirt is taken.
We didn't disscus it. Oussama Darragi wears it, he's a great player too. We'll find a solution.

You know Ale will let him keep it...
Yes.

There could also be offers from England for him...
You shouldn't talk about this too much (smiles). Give us the hand that we need.

No, what I meant is that the public in the US won't be attracted by Del Piero, unless they are of Italian heritage. Beckham was a pretty face from the EPL, Henry was from the EPL. The majority of the small number of football followers in the States are EPL followers, I guess. The Latinos would be attracted by La Liga players and a serie A stars would attract a crowd only among the Italo-Americans.
Just a logical assumption, which might not be true at all, I guess.
Spot on.

I don't think it's possible that someone who is into football (even soccer) doesn't know who Del Piero is. He's just one of those stars with truly universal fame.
You'd be surprised. If they're recent fans, they have barely even heard of Juve.

The real big Del

Italian superstar Alessandro del Piero is the man Sydney FC want to replace Nicky Carle as their marquee player, and the Sky Blues have already made an approach to the Juventus legend, voted by FIFA as one of the top 125 players in history.

Del Piero, 37, is the fourth-highest capped (91 games) Italian international of all-time, and played more games (513) for Juventus than anyone else before he pulled down the curtain on his illustrious career with the bianconeri after last season's Coppa Italia final in May.

Since then del Piero has been linked to moves to the Middle East, China, Argentina, the United States and Switzerland, but after two months as a free agent has yet to commit to a new club. This week's surprise departure of Carle to the United Arab Emirates has suddenly opened the door for the Sky Blues to enter the race for a player who would galvanise Sydney's notoriously fickle Italian football community in a heartbeat.

Del Piero, reportedly still in prime condition, would unquestionably be the biggest signing in A-League

history. Such is his immense stature as a footballer, and an ambassador, that the Sky Blues could realistically expect several sell-out crowds at Allianz Stadium - something previous marquee stars Dwight Yorke and Juninho both failed to achieve.

''We're going to go for it as hard as we can,'' said chief executive Tony Pignata. ''The board is 100 per cent behind this. We believe he's the perfect marquee player.

''We've already made an approach to his management team, and we're waiting to hear back. This is not a gimmick, it's deadly serious. To get a player of his stature would be huge, and we know that.

''I can't say whether we'll be able to compete with whatever other offers he may have in a financial sense, but I do know playing over the summer, in a city like Sydney, gives us a real selling point.''
