I must say, Ale was great last night, I was impressed, but not shocked.

I was shocked in the pre-season for example, when he played like he's 23...I was really shocked. He was so sharp, fast and fresh that I couldn't believe it. He can do much better than last night, he was still a bit heavy and slow. Give him mintues and he'll get his speed back, and then we'll get the whole package.

Err, it's not like Conte had any other option but to play Ale in a Coppa game, I always knew Ale would get his chance there.

There is nothing Vucinic can offer that Ale can't except that Ale would do it much better and in a way more classy style. Problem is that he can't play against all teams and he can't be a starter week in and week out. Those are the only advantages Mirko has over Ale, and nothing else.

Yeah, but everyone will be wrong if dares to predict the starting lineups many days before the actual match. At this point Conte too doesn't know (most probably) who will replace Vucinic so Gazzetta are simply making an assumption. They might be right, they might be wrong.
If DP didn't play 120 minutes yesterday, I'd say that he was 80% gonna be the one replacing Vucinic.

He had at least 5 options, even without including Pepe or Matri.

Giac played CM so we could have played 4-3-3 with Krasic-Quag-Esti or Krasic-Quag-Elia. Or we could play 4-4-2 with Quag-Toni up front. Or with Iaquinta or Amauri. If Conte didn't want to play DP or was told to punish him, he wouldn't have played him, especially with the convenient excuse he could have used with DP's injury on Sunday.

Conte played him because he thought Del Piero will do better than the others I mentioned above.

It's simple. There was a reason why Storari played ahead of Manninger even though Conte had an option to play the Austrian goalkeeper. There is a reason why Sorensen played ahead of Motta even though the option was there for Conte to play another RB, not the Danish kid and there was a reason why Del Piero started ahead of players who could have filled DP's position, which was their natural position too. Conte had other attackers and attacking wingers to use but he chose Del Piero.

Since Conte obviously didn't take the match seriously, he could have easily played Elia or Estigarribia instead of playing the better option (which is still one of many options).

Now lets see if Del Piero will replace Vucinic against Roma. Since you think that he's the only player who can replace Vucinic (I agree that he's the best option to replace Vucinic) then Conte will have no options but to play him, as you said. If someone else replaces Vucinic, then I guess it will be proven that Conte did have the same option to use against Bologna too.

Why did Conte tire his ONLY option against Bologna instead of keeping him for the much more important Roma match? He kept his only option for playmaking, Pirlo, on the bench and he even used Giaccherini there. Why didn't he do the same with his only option to replace Vucinic?
