I wouldn't be so quick to attribute their misfortunes to his absence.Sure he was a good finisher but Udinese aren't exactly devoid of any good backups.Besides, two of their last three games were against very tough opposition and they'd most probably have lost anyway, Iaquinta or no Iaquinta.

Iaquinta faces World Cup axe

Frozen out Udinese striker Vincenzo Iaquinta has been warned that his World Cup hopes hang in the balance.

The forward has been a part of Marcello Lippi’s Azzurri plans, but that could all change as a result of his club dispute.

The Bianconeri have opted to ignore the contract rebel and Lippi has conceded that could affect his national service.

"I’m not too worried at the moment as it is just a week that he hasn’t been playing," the Coach told Sky Italia.

"However, if the situation stayed the same then it would be a different matter completely.

"Should Iaquinta not play for two months then I wouldn’t be able to select him and that would disappoint me.

"There is only space in the national side for players who feature with consistency for their club and Del Piero."

Some have criticised Udinese for taking such a step, especially as Iaquinta is still contracted until 2007.

But Lippi, a former Juventus and Inter tactician, feels he is in no position to pass judgement on the outfit.

"There are a lot of well defined strategies within a club and nobody can interfere, not even the Italy Coach," he concluded.

As can I. But you aren't most of the time--which is good enough for me. :)
When people see ONLY the bad side, I forced to show it more.

You know, that's a great point. Kindness is in the eye of the beholder, maybe....or at least part of it is.

Udinese end Iaquinta embargo Wednesday 28 September, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Udinese have announced that Vincenzo Iaquinta will return to the squad for Saturday’s match with Lazio after working through his contract dispute.

“If Coach Serse Cosmi considers it opportune, then he can bring Iaquinta back into the side,” confirmed director Pietro Leonardi in a Press conference this evening. "Iaquinta will stay with us until 2007 and he will play."

It is an important step for both sides in this saga, as Iaquinta can resume his push for a place in the World Cup and Udinese can try to end their run of four consecutive defeats.

The split had occurred two weeks ago when Udinese froze him out of the side because he refused to sign a new contract. "There has been a lot of mud-slinging on President Giampaolo Pozzo and on the club, but we did not blackmail Iaquinta," assured Leonardi.

His current deal does not expire until 2007, but the side has now announced that he will stay at the Stadio Friuli until the end of the contract without receiving an increase in wages.

Iaquinta had been their most effective player in the opening weeks of the season, scoring a hat-trick in their Champions League debut win over Panathinaikos.

It was silly anyway to start a contract feud 18 months early. Hopefully Udinese can reach the second round in the Champions League now that the harmony has been restored.
