Iaquinta pens new Udinese deal Friday 30 September, 2005

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Vincenzo Iaquinta saga has come to an end after the player extended his Udinese contract until 2009.

Iaquinta has been at war with the Bianconeri for the past two weeks for initially rejecting to renew his deal, which previously expired in 2007.

The Italian international was frozen out of the squad as a consequence, with a January sale looking increasingly likely.

However, after being reintegrated into the squad on Wednesday, the 26-year-old has now put pen to paper on a new agreement.

"The situation has been resolved with satisfaction from both sides," stated club patron Giampaolo Pozzo.

The former Pescara attacker has also secured himself a healthy pay rise, seeing as he will now net almost £900,000 a season – more than doubling his previous wage.

Nevertheless, whispers suggest that the Azzurri squad regular will still be sold in the New Year.

The club are ready to cash in on him if they receive an offer of around £8m for the powerful target man.

Barcelona failed in an approach for him last January, while Fiorentina, Roma, Juventus and Milan have also been linked with his services.

Wonder where Inzaghi would go though.Few teams would want to pay for his services along with the amount of down time he gets every season. And there's the wages too.

Besides he's known as the poor man's Vieri, and the other one's already there. :D

Milan would probably buy Iaquinta and sell Inzaghi.
Not likely. As Desmond pointed out few clubs would be willing to pay for Inzaghi's wages since his injury problems started. Vieri didn't sign with Milan to be the 4th striker. And Iaquinta wouldn't join Milan to sit on the bench and miss the world cup. If he keeps his place in the squad he will stay with Udinese until after the world cup.

Iaquinta joy at Udinese return Saturday 1 October, 2005

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vincenzo Iaquinta is back in the Udinese side after penning a new contract and claims it was the right choice for everyone involved.

“Straight after the Barcelona match my Father suggested I accept the contractual terms the club was offering,” explained the striker in a Press conference. “I am satisfied and so is everyone.”

Iaquinta started the season with a bang, scoring a hat-trick in his Champions League debut and playing a key role in Udinese’s play, but he was frozen out of the squad for two weeks after refusing to sign a contract extension.

The saga came to an end yesterday afternoon when he signed a new deal tying him to the Stadio Friuli until 2010 and he’ll make his comeback against Lazio this evening.

“To be in the stands was a horrible strain,” confessed the Italian international. “After the club and I agreed to a pause for thought, I decided to sign the contract until 2010. I now feel more relaxed, enthusiastic and fired up. We need to win the Lazio game at all costs.”

One of the decisive elements that broke the deadlock was the intervention of fans, who chanted Iaquinta’s name during the 2-0 loss to Reggina last weekend – their third consecutive defeat. Yet other sections of the support were angry at his wage demands.

“I hope that the fans understand what really happened and don’t stage any kind of protest against me. I’ll give my all, just as I always have done.”

Patron Giampaolo Pozzo came in for criticism after freezing Iaquinta out of the squad in what the Players’ Association dubbed “an illegal tactic.”

“We have clarified the situation between ourselves and that is the important thing,” insisted the forward.

Udinese director general Pietro Leonardi also added: “The club really appreciated the common sense and approach of Iaquinta’s father in creating the understanding atmosphere we all hoped for.”

However, the matter could not be entirely resolved, as the Italian Press maintains that an £8m offer in January or the summer will prompt Udinese to sell Iaquinta.

Olny a coach who had him before would buy him, milan apparebntly will buy Jan Koller as his replacement
Not buy, sign. Koller's contract expires after the season and he has stated that he will leave Dortmund.

Udinese are still ready to sell striker Vincenzo Iaquinta in January.

The Italy international signed a new deal through to 2010, but it's understood the compromise was reached after Udinese chiefs agreed they would not block a move away should an offer of at least £8 million arrive in January.
