You are burning the same amount but it just doesn't feel the same. Trust me on that. What I recommend is to get yourself a clock with a pulse meter, Garmin Forerunner series are the best, Polar's range are also good so are Suunto.

You will notice that you burn the same about of calories but sweat less when it is colder.
Spot on. How much you sweat is not an indicator of whether you're getting a proper workout or not, its all about getting your heart rate up for a prolonged period of time.
That's good to know. Then for me, it might actually be better to run in cooler temps because I can go further. My body isn't as drained from the sun.

cross country... skiing? The norwegian thing?
Nope, the American running thing.

Well of course. Autumn outdoor training is the best. Get yourself a set of warm tights and a fleece and you're all set to run all year round. That's what I did.

You folks are running in November outside? Ain't that a recipe for a pneumonia or something? :D
Yesterday it was around 2 degrees and I lapped a bridge 4 times :D. Before reaching the top you encounter Swedish west coast wind right in your face. I am sure with the wind effect on the bridge the temperature was equivalent to -5 or something. I am still in one piece and were it not for other duties I would be out running as we speak.

You folks are krazy. High body temp, cold air around you....I once ran with the temp being around 0, I remember I shed more liquid through my nose than my entire body. :D Never again, thanks. But I have a chronic sinus situation, so I suppose it's better for you guys when you get used to it.

Well, with the right clothing I don't see why the temperature around would affect one. The runny nose is something one gets used to and that's about it.

I'll be running a 10km race on New Year's eve. Do you know how it's like at that time of the year in Sweden? :D

Well if we're no strangers to temps way below zero, I can imagine it's not pleasant. I hate winter. :inter:

For the first time in my life I think the Muslims might be onto something. I remember watching this video where they asked one of those guys why the men have to be separated from the women in the mosque. And he says "it's not the best concentration for a man.. [to be staring at the ass of the woman in front - this he didn't say, merely implied]" Well, there is a similar issue at the pool where I was today. Without going into much detail if you go to the pool you'll see what I mean. Especially if you wear swimming goggles. It can be a bit distracting. Of course the Christians don't have this problem cause they're not striking a pose where you're basically studying the stitching on the buttocks of the pants of the guy in front. But I digress.

It does get a little Hong Kong in there but I was trying to maintain a mindset of like a guy who's just bought a brand new car. He's driving it all around town and it doesn't bother him that sometimes there's a traffic jam. The car works just as well at 3km/h as it does at 80 and he has the radio on, comfortable seat, just enjoying it. However at one point there was this woman in front who was doing some sort of back stroke that imitated giving birth. She was taking up more than half the lane with this thing, and of course going very slow.

It's not really a problem if you're out there all the time, the body can handle it. I used to play football at temperatures down to -10, it's still doable.

That's what I tried to tell Vlatko. It's doable with the right clothes. It might be a bit irritating at first but once you're on, it's all fine.

At first, yes, it's cold. But since you're moving, since it's physical effort, the body heats up by itself. You start with a jacket, then you take it off cause it's too hot.

I know this must sound like science fiction for someone from Croatia but us Scandinavians have lived it :)
