If you compare CL balls of 2010 with the Fevernova of 2002, you see that the latter is simply a better ball. Compare video footage if you want to, the balls used to be better.

Italians aren't the best when it comes to losing and I have no problems admitting that, but to say that 2002 and 2004 were normal results is ludicruous, Alen. Five legal goals disallowed in just four games? Del Piero elbowed in the face with impunity with the ref standing right next to him? Totti who got sent off for.. well.. I still don't know what he got sent off for. And then Korea repeats it all against Spain. I'm sorry, but there is no way one could interpret that as being normal.

Funny thing though: Ireland had ONE call against them and they filed a complaint. They wanted to go the World Cup. Lots of people backed them. No talk about poor losers there.

But what is abnormal about what happened in 2004?

What is abnormal is the result. Italy had to thank themselves, no doubt, but to say that the result was normal is just stupid.

There's banners with 2-2, Send the Spaghetti Eaters home, all over the stadium and the game ends in 2-2 (which as you are well aware of is not a result you see every day). It was never investigated and that says it all. Also, some of the banners were downright racist, but nothing was done about it, because Scandinavians are always such good sports.

Indeed, the Italians are the sorest losers ever. I can't remember the last time they lost a tournament because they just were not good enough.

In the last Confed Cup, they didn't care about the tournament(despite playing their full first team)

In 2008 they were "unlucky" to lose in penalties against Spain(despite Spain dominating the game and deserving to win in full time)

2008 Spain deserved to win and Italy were average under Donadoni, as for the Confeds, really who gives a shit. But 2002 and 2004, I think you should look again. Korea clearly were helped TWICE in 2002, I don't know how you can really pass that off as a silly conspiracy theory, those two games were an absolute disgrace. As for Denmark-Sweden, it just conveniently ended in the 2-2 draw that put both sides through with the teams playing at 50%? What can FIFA do in that situation though? They already changed the rules in 1982 after Austria and West Germany fixed a draw to knock out Algeria.

In events of this magnitude shit happens. I'm not talking about singlular incidents like the Grosso leap against Australia or Malouda's non-penalty in the final, things that are pre-empted. You don't have to give a man a brown paper bag full of cash, just put a terrible ref (say, one convicted of corruption in his home country that is the footballing powerhouse of Ecuador) in and the chances of him deciding the game are high. Italy knows all about these things, at home and on the international stage. It's an extremely naïve viewpoint to believe that football games you watch are decided simply by technical and tactical values, it's not just a sport, it's big business.

Of course it was not a normal result, that is obvious.

But the important thing in this matter is that the Italians had no one to blame but themselves. Whining because 2 teams (direct competitors no less) take advantage of win - win situation is just ridiculous.
Most, if not all teams would have done exactly the same.

I love hearing Italy fans complain about conspiracies given that there have been very many times that top Italian clubs have bought ref's over the years (especially in the '60s and '70s).

I think they would have fixed it, yes. But this game hardly matters as I agree that Italy fucked up themselves.
