2008 Spain deserved to win and Italy were average under Donadoni, as for the Confeds, really who gives a shit. But 2002 and 2004, I think you should look again. Korea clearly were helped TWICE in 2002, I don't know how you can really pass that off as a silly conspiracy theory, those two games were an absolute disgrace. As for Denmark-Sweden, it just conveniently ended in the 2-2 draw that put both sides through with the teams playing at 50%? What can FIFA do in that situation though? They already changed the rules in 1982 after Austria and West Germany fixed a draw to knock out Algeria.

In events of this magnitude shit happens. I'm not talking about singlular incidents like the Grosso leap against Australia or Malouda's non-penalty in the final, things that are pre-empted. You don't have to give a man a brown paper bag full of cash, just put a terrible ref (say, one convicted of corruption in his home country that is the footballing powerhouse of Ecuador) in and the chances of him deciding the game are high. Italy knows all about these things, at home and on the international stage. It's an extremely naïve viewpoint to believe that football games you watch are decided simply by technical and tactical values, it's not just a sport, it's big business.

On that note, watch this guy Carlos Simon of Brasil in the England-USA game

Its impossible to fix the game to a 2-2 draw without making it look suspicious, really impossible. But as soon as it became 2-2, maybe both teams were ok with that result, but i strongly doubt they agreed to fix the game.

Yeah all this fixing talk is bullshit (in regard to 2004). Can't complain when you throw away two games. Of course both teams were happy with the 2-2, why the hell wouldn't they be?

It's funny that everyone starts talking about 2004, but you ignore 2002 at the same time. Were they poor losers back then too?

You look at that and tell me that it doesn't look odd.

Nevermind the big calls he fucked up. Look at what they did do Del Piero and Zambrotta. Come on, you couldn't possibly justify that game.

The fouls on Del Piero, Zambrotta and the kick on Maldini's head at least deserved a red card, at least.

That match was a disgrace. Totti was tackled from behind instead of getting a penalty kick he shows him a yellow card.

I don't remember uglier ref performance than that. Disgusting to the max.

I agree, so why shouldn't Azzurri fans feel aggrieved about what happened? Nothing illegal about it settling for the result, albeit suspicious, I bet most teams would do it. If you are an Italy fan you would be pissed though, if two teams settle on a result like that.

It's three straight red cards. There's no two ways about it. The penalty was dubious, but I'll let them have it and Totti's case was never a second booking, but I'm not sure it was a penalty either. Tommasi's goal obviously should have stood.

So that's four horrible, horrible calls and two you wouldn't expect from an impartial ref.

He tackled Totti right on his ankle, he didn't touch the ball, he went straight on his ankle. There was no way Totti was diving there, just no way. It was as clear as the sun.

As for Tommasi's goal, I wouldn't even want to remember that.

I think it was a penalty, but you could argue it wasn't. Definitely not a second booking though.

But to elbow Del Piero like that and not get sent off? And kicking a guy in the head while he's down? These aren't even normal football fouls.

The result was not pre-determined though.

Both teams played their football, then they reached a result where both teams were qualifying, neither team wanted to risk going forward too much, nothing suspicious at all about it.

I see a game of football. Men's game.
If it was ballet, those would have been awful fouls.

Italy ain't my biggest problem. Argentina is.
I really love Maradona. I really like most of the players in that team. But I never liked the Argentinian NT and I'd enjoy if Messi chokes.
