So, if his price tag were lower, and he scored 35+ goals in all competitions for the next 3 years, but we still didn't win the CL, then that lower price tag would be justified? Did Higuain put that price tag on himself? In a way you are blaming him for that price tag.
I get your point. He didn't buy himself after all. But the price tag itself would still not be justified.

If you get bought for Cristiano Ronaldo money, you have to perform like Cristiano Ronaldo. Anything less than 50 total goals is a failure tbh.

I think this deal was made from a marketing perspective. We're back on top, have a few great seasons in Italy under our belt and now want to show the world we're a huge club. If we do well in Europe next season this move will boost our brand.
Higuain marketable? How? If marketing was the name of our game we already have the hottest marketable name in the game.

You know what this is all about? Appeasement. Simple as that. And God is it working lol

The price tag won't be justified no matter what. IF he were 24 instead of 28, then certainly.

But I mean we are getting a top class CF who can certainly score in bunches for the next several seasons with this club. Yeah, the price is stupid. I never disputed that. It's a sellers market, and you have to pay a premium for the scarcest resource in football, which is a bona fide goal scorer. And all of the top clubs in Europe already have that type of player. We didn't until now.

Improving the team is what it's about, we're not selling Pogba to fund Higuain, we're improving an area because a player wanted out.

No I'm blaming us for paying that. Every purchase is made with risk reward equation factored in, if we got him for cheaper it would have been a better risk reward equation, right now it is clearly not.

How much is he really worth in todays market?

My guess is about 45m.
Dude, you're aware that Chelsea paid 45m for Batshuayi from OM that was close to relegation zone last season and Liverpool paid 45mln for Benteke one year before who was playing for Aston Villa at that time. And now you claim Higuain is worth the same.

Ok. Like I said, the price is stupid. Never disputed that.

Let's be hypothetical for a moment. We sell Pogba for 120 million. No Higuain. Morata is already gone. Who would you get for the CF position that is attainable, and who would you get for the midfield?

:agree:

If an EPL side paid this much for Higuain, everyone would label it a joke. And rightfully so.

It's a normal deal if people pay 140m for Pogba. I much prefer Pogba over Higuain, but with 36 goals you can't dispute the fact he was easily the more decisive player last season and you get him at 40m less.

So heres a thought, do you think a player like Aubemeyang/Lacazette/Icardi would have been a good alternative? Basically what im really trying to get at is that did we really need to make a massive signing (monetrary-wise) or could we have just settled with someone who can just finish well but significantly cheaper, thus giving us a good budget next year. Surely there would have been alternatives.

I dont think is only to save face. Its clear that goalscoring CF is our weakness. And i dont agree he was brought to sell shirt sales...i think he was brought to take advantage of how desperate and hungry he is. We are betting in our good atmosphere and organization to make an impression on him, and to make him into our goalscoring machine while taking us to new levels. Pogba sold or not...this kind of forward was necessary for inmediate inpact after losing morata.

Still selling Pogba and getting Higuain doesnt nullify each other. As of today, no matter how we look at it...losing pogba is plain bad. period.
Thereare not enought Higuains to nullify the loss. What happens next needs to be seen, i mean, how the board deals with this loss.

But a superb goalscorer like him was a must, and if he was available then even better. The money paid is obesene... but if he can score like a madman for 3 seasons straight, it could be worth,

We dont know how risky this buy is, just the board knows.

No,
the only other good options would have been Suarez,Lewa,Cavani - all not available.Higuain had a clause.it's that simple.
