How do you not see the fault in our approach? We have an agreement with the player. I am not talking about our negotiations. Nor am I saying we need to pay 30m for him. But if he is who we want, and is our number 1 target for this summer, then we owe it to our coach and to the team and fans that we go out and sign him and not make a fool of ourselves for the third year running.

The way I propose we do that is, after finding an agreement with the player, negotiate with his team, but instead of beating around the bush with loan and installment deals we make our offer in outright, just like European teams do.

Right now, it's not about Arsenal offering 3m than what Juve are proposing. It is about Juve not only offering less money but also choosing the terms of that payment, spread over 5 years. Madrid would not ruin relations with us over 3m euros. The player himself has an 'agreement' of some sort with us, so the wages clearly are not a stumbling block, just like they weren't for Aguero and RvP.

To me, if we lose Higuain to Arsenal, then it is our fault. Not because they are offering 3m more to the club or more wages to the player. This deal could and should have been closed with intent because we have been on it with quite the headstart and have a stronger project for Europe. IF this was the player that Conte and Juve wanted we should've gone out there, played hardball, but moved with clear intent, instead of negotiating a lower fee on installments.

You seem to be aware that we had an agreement with RvP and Aguero. Clearly, you didn't have your legal department run through the terms of those contracts. As fans, the sources of information we have access to will always be the same: the press. If you scroll down my post, I've quoted the word agreement, to suggest that we are pretty close to one if we don't already have one, and that again, is more to suggest that he's ok with the personal terms we would be offering him. When Bronzetti, the agent handling this deal talks about close to a 70 percent possibility, you could say that certain filters have been met. Can't see any other reason behind our trips to Madrid over the last month and a half.

We aren't trying to guess anything here. It's pretty clear to me that we are interested in Higuain, which again is information I've deduced from the 'expert' stories and without any inside knowledge. And while I'm well aware that it is standard practice that we won't be buying a player with 25m in one go, it is the intent with which Marrotta will move in this deal. As for the approach, the margin of negotiation is not very big, and Higuain like RvP and Aguero is not somebody who you are not going to have competition for. It may not be the oil clubs, but there are mid level clubs like Tottenham and Arsenal who have shown interest, which has been documented. The player is officially on the market, and knowing our previous track record Marrotta could move faster than the competition shows up since we know that he does not enter bidding wars by his own admission. What we have done instead is spoken to 3 players and chased personal agreements with them without approaching their clubs first.

Again, we will probably close a defender (Ogbonna) before a striker. Deduced from the guesswork in the media reports I come across. Cant say i agree with that. Also now that Arsenal are in the picture, this deal looks harder to crack than it could otherwise have been. But since the reports mean nothing, no point speculating on the little facts we know. Let's just wait and see what happens.
