I don't entirely agree with that. The "free transfer" thing is obviously something that we're familiar with. But signing players who earn massive wages really isn't. Which is why the possible arrival of Anelka would be a big surprise for me. For what it's worth, I thought the exact same thing about Drogba, even when half the forum was convinced he'd sign.

Of course, if Anelka were to take a massive paycut & would be ok with wages similar to Vidal, Marchisio, etc, it does become a possibility.

Bendtner was brought in the exact same conditions and it looks like Anelka too is a last resort. Elia was brought in the same manner the summer before, how could I forget that?

The pattern I am talking about is, contacting players, failing to reach terms with the club (because Marotta does NOT negotiate), try another and another and in the end bring someone just for the sake of bringing someone.
