One of the better things Marotta did was this:
- Secco left a squad which earned 115m eur a year for wages.
- This January we have a squad which earns 89m eur a year for wages
If nothing else, we did manage to get rid of the dead wood and lower the wage bill by ~25m eur a year without getting worse results on the pitch (quite the opposite. We're doing much better).
Cron already listed many negatives so I won't repeat them. I just wanted to state how not everything's black.
In any case, I think the final calculation should be made on September 1st, if we manage to qualify directly for CL. Only then we can say loud and clear how did Marotta do and how much money he needed to do that.
Right now he's indeed saving some ~25m a year on wages, but he's in whooping 93m eur minus regarding transfer fees (156m for buys and 63m for sales). But this says a little without letting him have the final touch, which can be made only after this season ends successfully for us.

You think its Secco who decides to have a 115 million budget? And do you think its Marotta who decides to cut the budget? They get orders of how big the budgets should be. Those two don't do anything and if the board tells them that they can spend more or save money, thats what they'll be forced to do.
It's not important at all who creates the budget. It's how you use the available money. We are first with less money available.

Noone expected from Marotta to get back the 25mil investment we made on him, not even half of this money, but how about a quarter?

How about using Tiagos contract as a bargain chip?
Swap Giovinco with a player worthy of more than the double we got for his half.
Pay for Martinez as any other Italian club would have payed?
