Agreed on Aquilani. So far, he doesn't seem like a 15 million € player. Despite his obvious qualities.
Personally, what bothers me about Marotta is the lack of consistency. As if he doesn't have a real (long term) strategy.
The way in which he handled the Krasic deal for example is praiseworthy: acting with a lot of patience, not making any rushed deals & looking at all options / possibilities in order to save some money in the end.
But at the same time, other deals (both in & out going) were clearly rushed. Some turned out okay, some did not.
Trying hard to decrease the average age / payroll was also a smart move which deserves praise.
But at the same time he signed Toni & is apparently looking at Barzagli & Forlan.
Things just don't add up so far, imo.
Toni was out of necessity. I doubt that Toni would be at Juventus if Quag hadn't gone down with that injury. But then again, take a look at the target men who are currently on the squad.
Amauri, who has been in a 2 year funk now, and iaquinta, although he has the size of a target man, really isn't one, so to speak.
It was just unfortunate that Toni got hurt 2 matches into his Juve career.
January transfer market is not the time where young, up and coming players get put on the market. Unless I'm toatlly incorrect in this assesment, I can't think of the last time someone of that caliber will have transferred in January unless an exorbatant sum of money has been transferred. Dzeko, for instance. But that is an anamoly rather than a consistent pattern. Manchester City has more money than practically anyone out there in football.
So we are left with a perplexing situation.
The team is riddled with injuries, and stopgap players are obviously needed if the goal is to make the Champions League next year.
You simply can't go the rest of the season with Del Piero, Iauqinta, and Amauri as your main strike force.
I don't think that it is going to work.
Would I pay 15 million for Diego Forlan? No, I would not. But that is what the market is bearing right now, especially in a situation such as Juve's where there is dire need for another striker
