We could've gotten one of those for that sum. ONE player. Great strategy there, have a bunch of idiots kick the ball up at Cavani for him to do everything on his own.

Cavani's transfer fee alone is 60m euro. His salary would be at least 6m per year over at least 4 years. That's 84 million euros for one player.
You'd still have our entire current XI.

Is it a coincidence that since the draw against Parma, Andy chose to post today, the same exact day we're rumored to get Anelka? It's easy to see a pattern here.

So because it's within our budget it's okay to throw money on the ground? With that money we could have easily got Cavani or Falcao, just saying.
Cavani and Falcao are not realistic options, I really wish people would stop throwing these names about as though they ever were or will be.

Napoli wont sell to us and Falcao aint leavin la liga for serie a, simple as.

My point is basically that we could have been with a world class striker now instead of Matri and Quag, stop acting as if i said sell the entire team and buy one guy, the rest of the names on my list weren't even adequate back ups, Jo Martinez? please!

Is this real life right now? People are suggesting we should not even bother with backups?
We had backup, we just sent them away to play against us with other clubs only to buy them back more expensive in a couple of years.

Give him 40m to sign a top striker, he will end up with getting 3 cack forvets.
Calaio, Gilardino and Ranegie.

No, what I was arguing against was the use of those numbers. Since the flavour of the day is to trash The Great Man on account of a deal which is not yet finalized, the inclusion of wages and purchase cost seemed arbitrary without having the whole picture, precisely how much revenue the players generated. I would like people to stop pulling convenient numbers out of their asses and actually assess a situation on the factual premiss. Knee jerks have been plenty today, and I'm not quite sure if I can tolerate more of this bull$#@! in this thread.

Anelka isn't even signed yet, there are still 5 days left of the mercatto and yet bitches are losing their cool like there is no tomorrow
I didn't even mention Anelka in this thread. We were talking about the players that need to be replaced.

Though deep down (based on experience and history) you know that such a rumour (Anelka) is bound to happen.
If you mean that a less popular striker would be signed, then yes. Marotta is an opportunist and the January transfer market throws some up, because it's halfway through the season and players get itchy feet, being out of favour or just unhappy, clubs trying to get rid of them etc.

If you mean an old striker with high wages would be signed, then no. Which is why I don't expect Drogba. The only old striker we signed in such a situation was Luca Toni, and he was a free transfer and halved his salary to €1.5m.

Just quit it. Your logic fails.
Not really, those acting that the likes of Bendtner, Boriello, Martinez were necessary back ups are the ones who truly fail, my equation is that replace we could have replaced Quag & Matri with a world class striker instead of getting players who didn't even last long enough on the bench like Lucio, Traore, Martinez etc.

I'm afraid this is no place for logic.

As Cheese said, every forward we have signed was a failure after all.

No we couldn't. Matri was a forced buy because all our other strikers were injured at the time. Furthermore, Matri + Quags wages can't even cover the 4.5mill Llorente wants, let alone a Falcao-type signing.

So Marotta receives a free pass because we have to fill the roster with someone.

That is Juventuz logic!
With Anelka, its a cheap solution to an over-hyped problem. There are enough goals coming from all positions on the pitch. If theres any argument to be made its that we dont score enough goals, that said we're still 5 points ahead in the league and have scored more goals then any other team.

I like it how you intentionally avoided talking about Lisandro Lopez and the fact that we did not agree on terms with the club.

Nope, I have never seen this before. Never happened in any of the transfer windows where Marotta was in charge.

Then by your logic, it's a solution for absolutely nothing, and hence a poor signing.
