Here is something else to think about. If you were to believe everything you read, then Marotta not only decimated the midfield, it would appear that he did nothing to fix it, or other, pressing needs.
Here are some facts.
Vidal & Tevez were sold in 2015. In 2015, what did we do to bring players in? How about Sandro, Mandzukic, Cuadrado, and a certain player by the name of Paulo Dybala
The next year, when Pogba was sold for a world record fee, he was replaced by Pjanic and Higuain. The same Higuain who had just come off of a 38 goal season the year before.
So, did the midfield take a hit? Of course it did. But were other parts of the team significantly strengthened as well? Absolutely. And let's keep in mind that Juve were not in the same financial position 3-4 years ago that they are now.

Now, this man made some real errors with a number of his purchases. But we can't keep putting some of the blame on someone who hasn't been around, and has had nothing to do with this team for 2 years.

Quite the opposite really. Many journalists have said he asked for a btb mid who's good on the ball since 16/17 (read: SMS). Fabrizio Romano said we had Isco sealed signed and almost delivered before he got fired last year.
Max likes midfielders that get in the box, attack the spaces. Khedira was good at that, but Matuidi for all his virtues held us back so much offensively. Now he's not even good at the back.

Max didn’t ask for Khedira and Matuidi.
And aside from that, Khedira was excellent for us in 15-16 and 16-17. He got old and declined and we never replaced him adequately after that.

And for me, we made mistake by signing Ronaldo, we really did made a statement with his signing, but he came with too much financial burden which restricted us too much. Now we are at the crossroads where we need to rejuvenate the squad with quality players which won't be easy, especially with nowdays prices.
Maybe we needed to make a leap from Marotta, but the man is at no fault for the current situation and Paratici still have a long road to prove himself.

I mean it’s not secret that Allegri highly respected Khedira and he liked Matuidi aswel. With Matuidi’s transfers there have always been rumors that he’d like to have Matic or N’Zonzi instead of Matuidi. Anyway it’s no shame that he liked a certain kind of players, as all coaches have their own style. The discussion with Adani in Max’s last months where he argued that he used three DM’s in Milan’s win vs Barca became quite famous.
Its fair to say that Khedira, Matuidi etc are far less players then Kroos, Casemiro etc on the other side we don’t have to be blind to the facts that he always liked ‘tactical versatile and defensive strong’ players. He’s more a typical Italian manager who always rate those players.
I also don’t think that there were no discussions with Allegri at all regarding our transfers. He was 5 years with us, won a lot and it’s insane to think that Marotta and Paratici totally ignored him when making new signings.

Conte didn’t got Lukaku, but they gave him a lot of other players like Asamoah, Giovinco, Pogba, Ogbonna etc.
Its not fair to say that they totally ignore the managers, especially at Juve where our directors are famous of standing really close to the team.

We may laugh at his policy to sign cheap players from smaller Italian clubs as backups, but they did play a large part in our early success. Padoin, Caceres, even Sturaro (in his first two seasons) played really well when they were asked to. They did their job, remained fit and did not eat up our wage bill. Contrast that with today's scenario where the likes of Khedira, Higuian, Rugani, Douglas Costa, De Sciglio, Danilo do nothing but earn fat cheques while sitting on the sidelines.
