He wasted like 3 clear goals against udinese, and was MIA the whole roma game. He is llorente all over again as of today.
Mandzukic is not the most clinical striker out there. he missed quite a number of chances at Bayern too but they created so much that he scored quite often. Gomez had almost the same number of goals as him in twice less minutes played in that treble season for Bayern. i wouldnt call him a wasteful striker but even in top form he will miss some very good chances. he is a top striker because of other qualities, mainly his pressing game which will be seen more in the CL, especially in the 2nd round. also, like the rest of our signings, he will need time to settle in, especially now with so many new players incoming. i wouldnt judge him by the Roma and Udinese games because of that, and also because we missed half our midfield in those games.

Have you seen him peak? Thank you very much.

If you plan on using a classic #9 Mandzukic is close to as good as it gets today. Now I didn't see the Roma game, but I think he did a fine job against Udinese.
A striker never did a fine job if the match ends 0-something. Besides that, he played poorly. Things like bad first touch, wrong runs etc

I still think Mandzukic was a good transfer. It was smart to balance our youth with an experienced player. The shit happened elsewhere

I don't understand why Mandzukic is considered an undisputed starter by Allegri, at the expenses of Morata/Dybala. He should be fighting for a spot with Dybala, Morata should be the clear cut starting guy. He earned it last season.

With Mandzukic now in the side instead of Tevez the pressure is on the team to create a lot of chances per game, otherwise MM is next to useless on the pitch.

I don't think he is. But Morata was injured up until recently, no?

He's pure #9, needs to get good service, but adds a lot of grinta as well, which can be useful if other players press the opponent as well. In a situation where the approach is to stand off, not pressure the opponent at all, one of his main qualities is diminished.

:agree:

Mandzukic for that price was a very good transfer in my opinion. Especially as a Llorente replacement. Huge upgrade there. But bringing in Zaza as well was just ridiculous.

Morata-Dybala should be our first choice front 2 but Mandzukic should get plenty of game time both off the bench and in matches that call for his particular talents. He'll also thrive with service from Cuadrado and Alex Sandro on the wings. If we do at times play a front 3, Morata--Mandzukic--Cuadrado would be excellent in my opinion as Morata is quite a capable LWF.

Juventus failed in €25m Hamsik bid, reveal Napoli

The Serie A champions made a big offer for the Slovakian midfielder but were unsuccessful, Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed he rejected a €25 million bid from Juventus for Marek Hamsik on transfer deadline day.

Juve had an eventful day, which picked up in pace after they lost out on long-term target Julian Draxler, who opted to join Wolfsburg from Schalke.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men eventually signed Hernanes from Inter in an €11m deal and Mario Lemina on loan from Marseille in a frantic final few hours of the window, but not before they had failed in an attempt to sign Hamsik.

“This is a team which has kept its stars,” De Laurentiis told Radio Kiss Kiss.

“Juventus wanted Hamsik for €25m, I asked them for Stefano Sturaro and Daniele Rugani and they refused… so they got Hernanes instead!

“We had offers totalling €98m, not including those for Gonzalo Higuain and not selling them is the same as if I had bought players worth that much.”

As well as keeping key stars like Hamsik and Higuain, Napoli - who have signed Nathaniel Chalobah on loan from Chelsea – also came close to landing Alessio Romagnoli earlier in the summer, only for De Laurentiis to see him join AC Milan for €25m from Roma when he was prepared to pay more.

He continued: “I offered Walter Sabatini €28m for Alessio Romagnoli and he then sold him for €3m less than previously discussed, but Vlad Chiriches is a good buy.

“If anything the problem isn’t that we couldn’t get Rugani or Romagnoli, it’s that identifying and getting the best central defenders is difficult.”

Napoli have only picked up one point from their opening two Serie A matches going into the international break.

So Hernanes wasn't plan B. Hmm.

Well, it went like this

Plan

A: Goetze
B: Draxler
C: Lamela
D: Hamsik
E: Hernanes

:)
Honestly I'm not sure that Marrotta and Paratici were on the same page about Draxler. The way the negotiation went, we probably were holding back a bit, and if we hadn't gone in for Hamsik in a panic situation, we may have actually got him had we pursued him a little longer and planned ahead.

Most likely. It would have explained why our initial offer was so shockingly low. Someone in the board was probably very concerned about his fitness issues, let's see if they were justified.
