Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon believes the Bianconeri can challenge for the Scudetto next season if they strengthen the squad in the off-season.
The 2006 relegation to Serie B after the 'Calciopoli' match-fixing scandal sparked a player exodus from the Turin club, but on their return to the top-flight Juve are set to qualify for next season's Champions League as they currently lie in third place.
"The problem is that we have thrown away too many points against the 'small' teams, otherwise we would be fighting for the championship. It is a little regret," Buffon told La Stampa.
"If we aim for the Scudetto (next season), we may need a couple of players, so long as they are the right ones and really good, and young."
"But we don't want to go back and be the Juve that we were before, who were struggling to win in Italy and in Europe."
Juve beat league-leaders Internazionale on Saturday evening, but remain 10 points adrift of the summit after several disappointing results earlier this season.
"With 10 points to make up, we cannot do anything for the Scudetto: we re-opened the race but not for us," Buffon added.
"Maybe we are not technically at the level of Inter and Roma."
"The goal is to finish the season well: there are still eight matches and we have to get the most we can, I think we can get 18 or 19 points."
"I do not think we could beat Roma to second, it seems to me a very difficult undertaking."
"(But) What we are doing is great and we must not forget it."
Unlike Buffon, Bianconeri team-mate Alessandro Del Piero was not selected by Italy coach Roberto Donadoni for Wednesday's (Thursday AEDT) friendly against Spain despite a run of good recent performances, but the goalkeeper believes Del Piero has a future with the Azzurri.
"It's a pity that Alex is not there, (because) he's in great form," said Buffon.
"But he has nothing to prove to Donadoni and the fact that he is not here does not mean we will not return later."

Very wise words by GIgi and i believe that the fans must remain calm the following years, while the new Juventus is being built, but the fans want to see better improvements in our transfer policy - with more quality players and not necessary expensive- in comparison with the transfers we made last year.
