Buffon To Juve: Sign Ronaldinho
Gianluigi Buffon has told Juventus to sign Ronaldinho, although he accepts this is an unlikely occurrence.

Morale is high in Turin after a fine recent run of form that has even opened up a slim chance of winning the Scudetto.

The Bianconeri are third in the league table, but if they win their game in hand they will be four points behind Roma and eight behind leaders Inter.

"Now I would give us a vote of eight out of 10,” Buffon told the Corriere dello Sport.

“I would give us a six if we finished fifth, seven for fourth, nine for second. But to come first it would not simply be a ten. We would be making history. A team that came from Serie B and then won the Scudetto.

“We lost four to five points on the road, otherwise we would be there now fighting near the top.”

Buffon was asked what was needed for Juventus to realistically challenge for the Scudetto.

"Quality and quantity. If we really want to be competitive we need four or five players,” he explained.

"Since Maradona has retired, I would say Ronaldinho. Someone like him I would take straight away.

“Indeed, if the money were available, we could buy him. But I believe that he costs too much and the club has its rules.”

Buffon: No More Mistakes Please

Gianluigi Buffon says that Juventus must cut out the errors if they want to challenge for the Scudetto next season.

The Bianconeri’s slim chances of winning this season’s championship were all but ended last night when they lost 3-2 at Palermo.

In truth the scoreline was a little harsh on Juve, and coach Claudio Ranieri said after the game that Palermo had scored on all of their only three shots of the night.

"These were three goals that were unstoppable,” Buffon told Tuttosport.

“Sometimes, however, a goalkeeper must do something, a movement to make shots that seem unstoppable, actually preventable.”
There have been a number of occasions this season when Juve have been slow out of the traps, and this happened again last night when they fell 2-0 behind.

Buffon says that this is something that needs to be corrected if they want to challenge for the title next season.

“Juve deserved at least a draw. Unfortunately, once again, we did not react until our opponents scored, in this case two goals,” said the 30-year-old.

“They are mistakes that, this year, as we are only going for third or fourth, may not be decisive.

“But next season, when our objective will be higher, we cannot afford this irresponsibility.”

Buffon looks to Europe
Saturday 12 April, 2008

Gianluigi Buffon thinks Juventus can start celebrating a Champions League spot and prepare to win the trophy next term.

“I think this victory definitively leaves Milan behind us and takes us away from the direct opponents for a Champions League place, which at this stage are Fiorentina and Sampdoria,” said the goalkeeper after the 3-2 win over the Rossoneri.

“Both of these sides have tough games on Sunday, so this could prove to be a very favourable round for Juve.”

The Viola in fourth place pay visit to leaders Inter, while Samp go to struggling Reggina.

Buffon admits he was concerned when Super Pippo Inzaghi struck twice to put Milan 2-1 up.

“In games like this it is very important for everyone to have the confidence in themselves and their teammates, so I was worried when we conceded such silly goals that some might lose hope.”

They fought back with a Hasan Salihamidzic brace to defeat Milan and the goalkeeper is now already focused on next season.

“If the club said we’d remain with the same players next season, maybe a couple more than we have now, then I would be content.

“What Juventus really want is to win the Champions League. Just look at Liverpool, who haven’t made an impact in the Premier League for years and yet are always doing well in the Champions League.

“It proves that even if you don’t have the biggest or strongest squad, you can make yourself heard in that competition.”

Del Piero deserves Italy call-up, says Buffon

ROME. (AFP) - Alessandro Del Piero's Juventus team-mate Gianluigi Buffon on Monday called on Italy coach Roberto Donadoni to restore the veteran striker to the national team set-up.

Del Piero starred in Juve's 4-0 demolition of Atalanta on Sunday, scoring a hat-trick and setting up the other goal.

He has scored 17 times in Serie A this season, already his second-best total ever with still four matches remaining.

And goalkeeper Buffon, Italy's number one, added his voice to the growing clamour for the Juve club captain to be welcomed back into the international fold.

"A Del Piero like the one we have seen recently deserves to be called up for the European Championships without a shadow of doubt," Buffon told Rai.

"It's also true to say that Donadoni has not completely closed the door on him. He's always said the door is open to everyone.

"No-one knows better than Donadoni how to do what is right."

There is little time left for players outside of Donadoni's recent squads, such as Del Piero, to earn a place in the party that will travel to Austria and Switzerland in June for Euro 2008.

But Buffon has been highly impressed with Del Piero's form this season. The veteran began the campaign on the bench with Vincenzo Iaquinta starting alongside France forward David Trezeguet.

But he forced his way back into the side and has been irreplacable ever since.

"He's doing something incredible because he's a champion who works really hard and applies himself in the right way and he never loses his motivation," added Buffon.

"That's very important to always keep up a certain psycho-physic level."

Gigi's Juve report card

Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has given the Bianconeri eight and a half out of 10 for their performance this season.

The Old Lady are currently third in the League table, 12 points ahead of fifth-placed Milan and five behind Roma and a top-two finish on their return to Serie A.

Juve were relegated for their role in Calciopoli and lost several star players as well as suffering financially, adding to Buffon's satisfaction at the Bianconeri's current position.

“I'd give us eight and a half out of 10. Not one of us expected to arrive in the Champions League so soon and in such a decisive manner.

“I am also perplexed, as, I am sure, everybody else is,” explained the Italian international 'keeper.

The 30-year-old shot stopper is also holding on to his dream of catching Roma, but admits it is now probably too late to grab a second spot from the Giallorossi.

“To hope doesn't cost anything, but the distance makes me think that we'll probably end up in third,” he concluded.

There are still 12 points up for grabs from the final four games of the Serie A season, but Buffon and Co face a tough task if they are to remove Roma's five-point advantage.
