Lorenzo Buffon: I Supported Milan Not My Nephew
Lorenzo Buffon has revealed how he supported former club Milan and not his nephew Gianluigi during the recent game with Juventus.Buffon Sr starred for the Rososneri from 1949 to 1959, making 277 appearances, and winning four Scudetti.

The 78-year-old, who also won 16 caps for the Italy national team, and was in their squad for the 1962 World Cup, visited the Milanello sporting centre yesterday.

The Udine-native had words of praise for current shot-stopper Zeljko Kalac, while he also referred to Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon, who he is related to.

"It's always a big emotion coming back here to Milanello,” said Buffon Sr.

“First of all I want to give my compliments to Kalac, I'm an admirer of his and I really think he's a good keeper.

”I can't deny my emotion to be here where I spent a lot of my career. I've always said I played in a great Milan, but as a Milan fan I must also compliment President Berlusconi for everything he has done for this great club.

“I'm a born Milanista and for this reason when we played against Juventus in Turin, despite the fact my nephew Gigi was playing in goal, I supported Milan."

Juventus won the game at San Siro 3-2, but Buffon Jr was twice beaten by Pippo Inzaghi strikes.

    Buffon: Anyone Would Take Gattuso
Juventus shot-stopper Gianluigi Buffon has talked about a number of issues, including the possible exit of Gennaro Gattuso from Milan.
    Amauri & Flamini

Juventus are already starting their transfer dealings ahead of next season, and Buffon was asked what he though about the possible signings of Palermo’s Amauri and Arsenal’s Matthieu Flamini.

"Amauri and Flamini? I do not know much about the negotiations,” Buffon told Gr Parlamento.

“But I can say that if Juventus want to compete on two fronts next season, Serie A and the Champions League, then two or three signings will not be enough.

“If you decide to focus on a single goal, then with a few quality signings you can succeed. In the end it is the club that must decide and they must be very clear about their intentions.”

    Gattuso

There have been strong reports in the Italian press that Gennaro Gattuso could leave Milan at the end of the season. Buffon believes that any team, including Juventus, would love to have him.

“Gattuso to Juve? Well, frankly I do not know if he will leave Milan, but someone like him, any team would be fortunate to have,” he explained.

“He has the moral values that unite the team more than anything else."

    Olympics

Finally Buffon made an interesting revelation, saying that he had been approached to play for Italy at this summer’s Olympics in Beijing.

"The Olympics? A half proposal was made to me,” confessed the goalkeeper.

“But I do not want to take the place of the people who have earned the right to be there.”

    Buffon surprised by Juve
    Thursday 24 April, 2008

Juventus 'keeper Gigi Buffon has admitted that the Bianconeri's impressive return to Serie A has come as a surprise to him.

The Old Lady sit third in the table and will almost certainly be playing Champions League football next season just a year after they earned promotion from Serie B.

The Turin outfit were, of course, demoted to the second tier for their part in the Calciopoli scandal in 2006.

“The best moment of our campaign was the win against Inter at San Siro and I think our fans will never forget that,” said the 30-year-old.

“I didn't expect us to be so competitive, I thought it was going to be harder for us and that we needed a great campaign in order to reach a top-four finish.

“I still believe our run was incredible, but I don't want us to lose focus. Roma are too far ahead and I think we have found the right position in the table. I miss the Champions League a lot.”

The Bianconeri will be looking to invest in the transfer market this summer in order to battle for the Scudetto next season.

“When you chase only one target you may find the strength to overcome your limits, but when you enter two different competitions things change completely,

“We need reinforcements, but I am not going to advise the board because they know what they are doing,” he concluded.

I am glad to hear the last sentence. I am pretty sure Buffon knows what the board's plans are, so if he's satisfied, that ought to be a good sign.

Its a very good sign when Gigi is confident in our board.. lets just hope he's not being nice by saying that publically and he really is satisfied..

    Buffon Backs Ronaldinho Purchase

Juventus goalkeeper Gigi Buffon is pushing for the signing of Ronaldinho from Barcelona, as he believes that the Brazilian would add a slice of necessary quality to help his team make an important step forward.

Buffon was the guest on the Sky program 'Attenti a quei due', presented by two former Bianconeri players, Gianluca Vialli and Paolo Rossi.

When asked which player he would endorse to arrive at the Old Lady, Buffon had no doubts.

"Anyone would like a player like Ronaldinho as a team-mate," he enthused.

However, the goalie also urged caution.

"However, such a player gives his best to a squad at times when he is stimulated and has desire - otherwise he can be a problem for the team," explained the goalkeeper.

Buffon went on to hail team-mate Alessandro Del Piero, who has been in sensational form.

"It's his best year," he commented. "Since November he has played five months as an authentic world-class player.

"Apart from the goals - he has always been cool in front of goal - in terms of physical play and running he is one who pushes the team and he is always ready to defend," concluded Buffon.
