I wasn't really talking about the goals, do his other stats lie then?
These were his final stats compared to the best from Juve in the same categories:

Goals: D'Agostino 11 (6 from pk) --------- Del Piero 13 (4 from pk)
Assist: D' Agostino 8 (sharing 8th in serie A) ----------- Del Piero 9 (sharing 4th in serieA)
Successful Passes: D' Agostino 1669 (3rd in serie A) ------- Nedved 892 (46th in serie A)
Passes in attack: D' Agostino 1060 (4th in serie A)-------- Nedved 536 (45th in serie A)
Successful crosses: D' Agostino 55 (4th in serie A) ------- Del Piero 53 (5th in serie A)
Won tackles: D' Agostino 109 (1st in serie A) ------ Molinaro 85 (15th in serie A )
Intercepted passes: D' Agostino 93 (18th in serie A) ----- Molinaro 96 (15th in serie A)

He is also second overall for total tackles, and I worked out 78% successful passing ratio which is better than anyone at Juve for that number of passes, but about 15th in the league (J. Zanetti had 94%, three at Milan on 88%).

Sure some stats can lie, but he is high on all categories and you can't fob it off with a generalization, he has had a great season. Enough to buy him in a loaded area of the team? Different story.

Yes, but Zanetti's passes are usually short passes to the man next to him. That's why his ratio is so high.
Around 75% of the passes D'Agostino makes are attacking passes which makes a ratio of 78% really high.

There is no doubt that at least our passing game will improve a lot if we have D'Agostino and Diego in the starting line-up.
Will our overall game improve i can't say, but there will be more and better passing for sure.

These stats also show us that Molinaro is probably underrated by a lot of people (not including myself here).

Underrated for sure, but just by looking at these stats you might fall in a trap and start overrating him :)
Moli runs a lot, more than anyone else in the team. He's everywhere on his side and his speed and stamina allow him to intercept many passes and be close to his man to tackle him.

I never doubted these qualities of Moli. But i fear that these are his only qualities and that it's not enough. If only he was a better crosser and if he could defend well inside our box, we'd have had a hell of a full back, but unfortunately he sucks in attack and he can't use his head for shit.
Actually, only if he was an average crosser and if his man marking qualities were a bit better, he'd have made a fine full back, but these "qualities" of his are way below average

Sounds like a good deal to me as long as we dont lose Gio or Crisito and we buy good full backs. Our passing game for the last 2 seasons has been horrible and is in real need of improvement.

If you think being 15th in Won tackles and Intercepted passes is a good thing as a starting man for Juventus, then you surly have low standards for this great club.

And dont forget that Serie A is nothing like it was before from the quality and standard point of view which make Molinaros stats even more pathetic.

He was in top 10 all the time. He was in top 5 in one of these categories if i'm not wrong. But he missed the last 5-6 matches and he fell to 15th.

Well, according to these stats & what Alen said, it looks like he was the "best" juve player in these categories
So what does that say about our other players?

Also, it seems that Molinaro gets a lot of criticism on these forums, whereas in real life (you know in the stadium etc) he is pretty well liked.

A lot of people miss many of his contributions I think. He does a lot of work that you don't always see on tv.

Plus, his crossing / passing is definitely improving. His positioning is not better than ok, but couple this with his speed and stamina and he is actually more than a decent LB.
Who knows what the future holds for him?

My 2 cents.

Btw, we're way out of topic now, but Criscito's defensive stats are also very good, and much better than Molinaro:

Intercepted passes: 109 (10th in serie A)
Won tackles: 106 (2nd in serie A)
Clearings: 211 (29th in serie A, 1st among full backs. All the others in top 30 are CBs)

Well, let's hope he continues like this next season (assuming he plays for us off course).
Interesting info, thx.

And now back to Gaetano!
