Napoli: 'We'll ruin Lavezzi's career'
Friday 12 June, 2009
Napoli step up the battle with Liverpool target Ezequiel Lavezzi, warning “he can spend two years on the sidelines and ruin his career.”

The popular striker has said an offer from Liverpool was rejected by the club and above all he is angry that the 'promise’ to improve his wages has not been kept.

“Lavezzi can’t say anything, nor can his agents,” slammed President Aurelio De Laurentiis.

“A man who signs a contract with an agreed upon length and value, which was already improved within seven months of his arrival, cannot ask for more.

“It’s not even as if his performances warranted yet another raise throughout the season.”

Lavezzi and the rest of the Napoli squad had a wonderful start to the season and were challenging for Champions League places until a massive dip in form for the final months.

“I am surprised by the immaturity of these professionals. It cannot all be based around money, there is also the value of the rapport between people.

“I told [director general Pierpaolo] Marino not to say 'this is football,’ or I’ll get really angry.”

De Laurentiis is a film producer and warns he is accustomed to dealing with contract situations, so he could take drastic action against 'Pocho.’

“We need a code of ethics for football teams. If Lavezzi continues to dig his heels in, then he will spend two years on the sidelines.

“He will not play until his contract expires, we could even get him deferred to the tribunal and he’d ruin his career.

“Besides, I repeat that I have never received an official bid from other clubs for Lavezzi.”

no, i believe that the only thing that Eto'o has better than Ibra is pace and an impressive strikerate, though as Fred argued before, strikerate can hide certain failings in a player and anyone who watches Barca frequently will see that Eto'o for all his plus points is hugely wasteful. would he have such an impressive strikerate in a team that is not so creative?
Yup, he is wasteful and his first touch can be a bit heavy too.

He has detoriated last 2 years, anyone who seen him his whole career will easily notice it easily. He used to be able to keep with this technical tiki taka, and wreck havoc on his own at will when he was at his best, nowadays he suffers with things that used to be simpler for him, turns, first touches, in overall bit heavy on them. And is more about waiting for servicing and being a predator then taking defenders apart himself like when he was at his best.

And Eto'o has NEVER been known as a great clinical finisher, he has been one that can easily get to heaps of chances easily due to his speed and skill, and score one average good level of the chances, not a clinical player who taps in the few he gets. He misses bit now and then, allways has.

Inter bought Milito and Motta for 25 million Euro + 5 youngsters, including Acquafresca and a few others who are supposed to be very promising and who've had excellent seasons in Serie B or play for Italy's u-20.

There would be riots here if we did something like that.

Pulleeezz, Bolzoni is average, the rest they gave up, likes of Bonucci, Fatic, Meggiorni they have ZERO use for. Serie B run of the mill players.

Only one of worth they gave up was Freshwater, and he would be backup, they dont really need that.

Based on this season's performances how would you guys classify the top 5 strikers in Europe?

This seems interesting, because of the recent arguments on Eto'o, Zlatan, Villa, Torres and Forlan.

For me this is my classification of the top strikers in the world based on this season's performances

1) Zlatan Ibrahimovic: He has been absolutely stunning this year, imo his best season to date. He has been toying with Serie A's defenders for fun this year and has scored a number of stunning goals. Based on this seasons performances, i don't see much competition for him for his #1 spot. If it weren't for his failings in the CL he would have even been a contender for best player in the world.

2) Eto'o: He has been deadly this year and has scored 31 league goals, which is always an achievment. He has been wasteful at times, but overall he's had a brilliant season

3) Villa: He has held Valencia all by himself this year. And scoring the amount of goals he has scored with his team in the state that they are is one heck of an achievement. Very close between him and Eto'o imo.

4) Torres: He has been out for most of the season but when he's played he has been fantastic. 14 goals out of 20 starts i believe, in a season where it has been extremely difficult to score goals for strikers. Add to that he was fantastic in the big games against the likes of Arsenal, Man Utd, Real Madrid and Chelsea, scoring against all those clubs this year. If he hadn't been injured for most of the season he would have been higher up the list for me. World class striker, no two ways about it.

5) Wayne Rooney: He hasn't scored much goals, but he has been vital to Man Utd's season. Playing out of position multiple times and excelling wherever he's asked to play. He isn't an out and out striker. But he's a hard worker, a creative outlet and one of United's most consistent players this year.

I don't think you can really nominate strikers for the top5 if they haven't had a full season to play. I mean Torres with 14? Noone in the EPL even cracked 20, that's not a strong season for strikers.

Rooney should not be in the list...you're forgetting the Drog
exactly

rooney is the most over rated player in the world. He scores u like what 13 goals in the league ?
Pato is miles better than him and if your considering rooney world class, im considering amauri too

Rooney should not be in the list...you're forgetting the Drog
Drogba found his form and was given a chance to play regularly only from February when Hiddink replaced Scolari. He scored "only" 15 goals in all competitions, with only 5 of them scored in the league.
I believe Fred was talking about this season only and this season Drogba's record is very poor compared to Eto'o, Zlatan, Forlan etc.

If we talk about their overall quality then Drogba would've been in Fred's top 5 without a doubt.
