Too many ppl enslaved by propaganda. I am not familiar with your "everyday American" but I know that 9/10 Russians idolize Putin and fully believe that all evil comes from the West. During USSR age ppl used to laugh about the government behind its back and not believing a word. In my opinion Putin's use of religion make the difference. As a result, some of the people who notice the discrepancy of the media's coverage, turn to the other extreme and completely overlook the massive flaws of Russia's policies/actions.
