There is nothing wrong with a club refusing to transfer players that have signed a contract.
Yes, and there are examples of that, such as recently Liverpool not allowing Suarez to leave.

But I think there's a difference between that & what happened to Llorente though. They basically used him as a warning to all other players what will happen to them if they don't want to stay there their entire career.

He asked to leave, what's so wrong about that? No need for treating him like $#@! all season (club & fans alike). Not everyone who plays for Athletic has to be like Iribar.

But it's pointless arguing with you about this, so...
just some chain of facts

during two years prior to his contract extintion he allways claimed he wanted to stay

Llorente says he will sign when the season is finished
season finished
Llorente says he will sign when the euro cup is finished
Euro cup finished.
press get to know Llorente was asking Athletic a 5mil€ 5 years contract
press get to know Llorente was given five years 4.8mil€ offer
this raged some fans and club members that considered that Athletic was giving him enough
aome assholes were to the training session with a banner saying "MERCENARIES NO" (that's all the harsh he received)
crowd booed him in San Mames
After two years and with few months left of his contract he stays he want to leave
more San Mamés booing
Urrutia said Athletic will use the player until his contract expires
Llorente is sent out of a training session for his constant lack of any effort.
Llorente scores the worst result of some phisical test (bare in mind Athletic was testing some non-profesinal players for its second team)
Llorente applauded back Madrid crowd. Just at the moment when one of his team mates was being insulted by the same crowd.
(I cannot describe the SHAME that is watching one Athletic Club player applauding Real Madrid crowd; it's something like watching Pirlo applauding Inter fans back when they are insulting Buffon)
Llorente published som twitter pics of himself in Real Madrid dressing room smiling and laughing with some real madrid players right after losing there 5-1
Llorente didn't talk to any basque media
Llorente gives some interviews to a journalist that is known for his hate towards Athletic Club.
Llorente plays dully whenever he gets into the pitch
Llorente gets booed every time he gets into the pitch and only then.

you know the rest.

And you did wonderful business there. Rejected any reasonable amount offered and payed yearly salary to unmotivated and under performing player. Idiots.

Javi Martinez was also used as an example, although in that case Bayern paid the release clause.

Super idiots
ManU almos broke his own transfer record for Herrera this summer... only that they were clueless about how to release a clause (we are not using the player BTW, Athletic rejected a 25mil€ for a player that is not being used)
Athletic receivedd 40mil€ for Javi Martinez. Bundesliga transfer record.
Athletic is one of the three clubs in la Liga with no debts with the goverment. (guess who are the other two)
Athletic is still a football club while most clubes in europe has became just sporting companies with owners and shareholders.
Athletic avoided paying one single player 10% of its anual budget (that's what Llorente asked for, and that's what Juve is paying him now)
Athletic has managed to have some superavit despite having built a new stadium this very year.

We know what we are doing... thanks for your interest.

and for Fernando, he's starting to find his shape... Conte should put him in the field regardless what he's bein doing in previous training sessions or matches. He allways gives the best of him against Real Madrid in Bernabeu.

He made himself useful by holding the ball up several times and even tried to combine with Tevez several times, his goal was a real poacher. Hope his instinct will come out more this season
