I had some issues as I got farther into Skyrim, I have about 1300 hours into that game. New Vegas was horrible off the bat, but that's an Obsidian issue. Oblivion was fine.
It wasn't really Oblivion's fault. They were forced into release before the game was ready. They made the whole game in 18 months. And it's still the best Fallout game so far imo.

Comparing to today's standard (Witcher 3, MGS Phantom Pain, Until Dawn, etc) graphics are just okay. Expected from Bethesda though. But still think they could have used a better engine.

Looking into it I found that those screenshots above are from an earlier version (possible made for xbox360/ps3 as well). These are from the retail version. Not wow amazing but much better.

i know but the game will always look better on PC than on consoles due to more advanced options
True, better machines and all that. I understand mods can add so much to a game But wouldn't you expect a game to release up to standards instead of relying on them afterwards? Not saying it's the case here, just saying in general.

i know what you mean and I didn't mean for my post to sound a bit harsh. For Bethesda standards, I typically don't mind if the graphics were up to standard or not due to it being an RPG first but judging from the pics, I think they're good enough for 2015. I am really digging the palette they are using for FO4.

And I have a sneaking suspicion that Bethesda leaked those 2nd round of screenshots due to the leaker leaking the first round of screenshots making them compressed and look shitty

No worries. Good enough, maybe. But if you compare it to other AAA games released this year it falls short on that department. I think before machines (consoles if you will) coudln't handle huge open world with great story and top notch graphics, you could have one or the other.

MGS, and even more The Witcher 3, has proved things have changed nowadays, you can have both. Of course when you buy a Bethesda game you know what you're in for. But It won't stop me from wondering... Bethesda today is huge, big production team, huge fanbase and marketing worldwide... Surely they could have made a better engine if they wanted to.

I don't mind how it looks, I'll play the hell out of it anyway. But I look at, for instance, that thumb on the last picture and I can't help but think a little more effort could have been put into the character models, the little details, you know. The world looks okay, character models not so good.

Bethesda usually have said in the past that they have so much more to put in but were always limited due to RAM/memory issues..if we compare witcher 3, you're usually in and out of zones whereas Fallout is usually fixed in one huge map so that might be the case considering all those scripts and events are all happening in that one map
