At least he was virtually only one running/moving forward in a team of frigging statues. Only one Diego could pass or free up, even if he had a meh game.
He has never been word class, just a decent player who can be real good going forward, but very average defensively.
And thats his job indeed, but even if he had a meh game (which I already said), his performance isnt worth pointing out much with the overall crappy performance, was ridicolous seeing Grosso being our go-to-guy offensively all the time simply because he was making constant runs. The rest barely did.
He's one of your archetypal late developers of the Italian game, these guys were never world class and never going to be but made the most of their attributes, he hasn't done too badly for himself and still has a sweet left foot.
if it wasn't for the goal against germany the world would not know his name...maybe they even forgot him right now...but still he is the only fullback we have that can cross.
