I definitely agree with you there. I think our midfield isn't really functioning well and i think Cesc in particular has suffered the most as he has been compelled to do more defensive work than he's used to without a proper DM playing beside him. I also think that if we got a proper DM, our defense will be a lot less exposed.

I don't think it is a coincidence that Arsenal haven't won anything since Vieira left.

When you compare Petit-Vieira and Gilberto Silva-Vieira to a Denilson-Fabregas midfield, it is little wonder that Arsenal are prone to getting bullied.

Selling Vieira was the biggest mistake we made. It's kinda like Real selling Makelele. We still haven't properly replaced Paddy to be honest. It's laughable that average players like Diaby are Wenger's idea of a Vieira replacement.

I think we should be willing to spend big on a DM. Whatever it takes, we should cough it up. I want to see us going for M.Diarra if he has no future in Real Madrid. Wouldn't mind paying over the odds for him. Maybe i am exaggerating, but i believe a strong ball winning midfielder, and we might as well be competitive next season.

Man Utd announce Tevez departure

Manchester United have confirmed that Carlos Tevez is leaving the club.

United were willing to pay the £25.5m to turn the striker's two-year loan move into a permanent five-year deal but Tevez, 25, has decided to move on.

"Disappointingly, his advisors informed the club that he does not wish to continue playing for Manchester United," read a United statement.

"The club thanks Carlos for his services over the last two seasons and wishes him good luck for the future."

Tevez became a fans favourite during his time at the Old Trafford club and helped the side win the last two Premier League titles as well as the 2008 Champions League trophy.

But he has joined Cristiano Ronaldo in exiting the club, with his final appearance being as a substitute in United's loss to Barcelona in the 2009 Champions League final.

United said they were willing to make Tevez "one of its highest paid players" but were told by the Argentine's advisors, who own the player's economic rights, that he would not be accepting the offer of their deal.

Manchester City are now favourites to sign him but he has also been linked with Chelsea and Liverpool.

City's financial clout makes them the frontrunners as their manager Mark Hughes tries to put together a squad capable of challenging the top four of United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.

Tevez has scored 15 goals last season but was frustrated at his lack of first-team football and was wary of the issue ahead of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

And, despite the affection of United's fans, he has reportedly complained of a lack of respect from the club and his treatment at their hands.

Tevez's adviser Kia Joorabchian recently explained that United's failure to sign his client up permanently last summer and in January 2009 were behind Tevez's complaints.

His departure now leaves United manager Sir Alex Ferguson without two of his most influential players - in Tevez and Ronaldo - of recent seasons.

Wigan midfielder Antonio Valencia has been linked with a move to United as the club try to replace the duo.

he's gonna get Judas'ed in the next derby
on a side note, imagine if Tevez and Gatusso got together and had a freak baby, it would probably be a player of outstanding strength, power, passion but would EAt his team-mates at half time

don't know where that came from, just carry on as if it never happened

Tevez's career has been a shambles since he left the American continent. I remember how the Argentina fans raved about him. If it wasn't for Messi (and Aguero to a lesser extent) stealing the limelight there'd be a lot of disappointed Argie fans walking around.

Tevez "the great" couldn't even become a starter at ManU, that's how great he is.

another player who probably needs to play at a "lesser" club, where he would be adored,be a leader and certain of a first team spot

That just proves my point. He was the "king" of South America, won the best player award, won the Libertadores, everything. There's always a risk when buying players from South America, you never know if they'll be as good in Europe. And Tevez was just about the most merited you could find.

But still the guy had a decent season with united. I agree with you he was hailed as the next big thing in south america and brazil back then but he wasn't that bad in europe. I'm pretty sure if tevez was a player in united 6-7 years ago he would definately be a starter and he'd be one of their best players.

Just that he's unlucky to play in the current united team which is probably the strongest united team ever (or atleast the best team that i've seen in the last 18 years )......

Come on, they have Rooney and Berbatov. Are you telling me the greatest player in South America isn't supposed to be better than those two? He's been there for two years, that's not a newcomer excuse anymore. And before that he played for West Ham and what? Set it on fire? Not at all.

neither did mascherano. also, Tevez did something right, manu fans adore him. And whether or not he's better than Rooney, he was NEVER going to start ahead of him

Mascherano is a minor celebrity compared to the hype heaped on Tevez, so that's beside the point.

And why shouldn't he start over Rooney?

because Rooney is the english phenomenon.

and it's not besides the point, what I'm saying is that performing badly for West Ham (at the time) doesn't give a true indication of the players level, as mascherano was even worse than Tevez, but now is one of the best DMs in the world
