If we play with the idea of a three man mid in a 433 there are two outlets for the three roles:
Version 1: #6(CDM), #8(B2B), #10(PLAYM.)
Version 2: #6(REGISTA), #8(B2B), #8(B2B)
The physical one is version 2 as you have two #8(B2B) type of players. We used to play this version with MVP: Marchisio, Vidal, Pirlo.
In version 1 you have space for less physical players as you have a natural CDM, who's very limited. This allows for more technical players in the #8 and #10 roles, as they won't have as much defensive contribution. This is how Real Madrid plays with two technical players in Kroos and Modric, backed by Casemiro.
Emre Can has such a good drive on the ball, that while he might suit the #6(CDM) role, we would probably see a better player if moved to a #8(B2B) role. As a #6(CDM) he could become very limited. A shame really bc he really excels his game when close to goal. I think Pjanic would be perfect in the #10(PLAYM.) role, but he could as well work as a #6(REGISTA).
If we want a physical midfield I think we should go with version 2: #6(REGISTA), #8(B2B), #8(B2B)
8. Can - 8. XX
6. Pjanic
