Hmm, well, one could argue that it's pointless because we will have to search for the same player once again next summer.
If we can buy a very good CB now then it's pointless indeed.

But we pretty much know what to expect from our board, don't we ?
If we don't have the money and the negotiating skills to buy a great CB then what would you like more..... to buy an average CB like Stendardo or to get Ivanovic on loan now, until January or next June when we'll finally have the money to buy the needed CB?

Who are we going to get at this stage anyway? Just trying to think roaming around Europe, who would be available? Marquez? I'd take him in a heartbeat but Barca probably won't give us a decent deal anyway. Zapata? Udinese probably won't do business this late on and it takes a while to hammer out a deal with them.
I bet we will have to offer a player in change or huuuuuuge money, they will probably ask one of our defenders (Melberg?), cause no one will sell any of their key players starting from August 18..

Nobody is going to want Mellberg besides us.

For FUCKS SAKE, how many years did Mellberg stay at Villa and NOBODY even would pay something to buy the player? 8 years? And nobody even said boo about the player. The big clubs in England were not interested in the guy... no way!

I mean, I don't care how good people think Mellberg is, that's just pathetic. That has to be telling right there. He's not as good as some people make him out to be.

The players people would want in exchange are the youngsters... Giovinco, Rossi, Pasquato, etc.

Just because of Chiellini lose i dont think we will go for someone good. We aint good enough in europe to compete for bigger players. Its quite clear now. And this is not 2004 where one good hope for a quality player signing up till 31 august 11:59 pm.

We probably do some stupid desperate move and go for another defender whos injure prone(thats why we can get him in the first place, cause we dont have to outbid him). Or make some stupid loan deal and go for the likes of stendardo or di biagio . heck thinking about this, di biagio was very close to join us last season....it might happen now.

Dude if they are praising Ekdal expect everything, so don't get shocked if someone compares Melberg with Canncavaro. Heck, I even saw some members putting Ekdal in their first eleven for next season's first eleven.

I know it's impossible (or at least i hope it is) but if we lose Chiellini for a long time it is going to be time for a tough decission to be made and i hope our board is up to the task not to do something out of desperation.....something like ....Giovinco in exchange for a CB.

I bet you diden't even watch Mellberg at Aston Villa Snoop.
I'm sure he did, I know I did, and I came to the conclusion that he's a good player but nothing special. Mellberg is solid if the ball is kept in the air and he had a lot of support in the midfield, not being subject to counters. We may have support here in the midfield for him but we still are subject to counters while trying to break teams that sit back against us, like half of Serie A. Mellberg gets exposed to counters or quick forwards he's no better than Legrottaglie.

No! I don't watch Aston Villa matches. But I guess the whole world did, and no one bothered to buy him like Andy said. And we were probably the only club interested to sign him on free.

They'll try to rip us off :(
The others know we need a defender and they'll play hard ball with us. So we'll either have to overpay or we'll have to give one of our jewels.
    Fuck this shit !!

Like I said I'm not trying to make out Mellberg as an awesome defender because hes far from it,but I still think some of this Forum underrate him and haven't seen anything from him.

Cut the IVANOVIC crap. I can almost bet that 70% of the guys screaming for him havent seen him play. And he's been frozen out with Chelsea, do you expect him to do miracles?
We need a PROVEN player, not an Ivanovic. We might as well get a primavera CB in stead of wasting money on a loan for him.

Lets see other Defenders break up a partnership of Terry and Carvalho.

But then, you have people saying he's a very good defender and he'll prove us all wrong. What's that supposed to mean? People even call Knezevic a good player but we'll see how many times these "good players" fuck up at the back for us. These guys are in no way class yet people make them out to be.
